Something that is a great help with app looping is the iRig BlueBoard, as it's a 4-button foot-switch and it interfaces with most of the major apps on iOS and Mac. I've used it for everything from LoopyHD to controlling the Mobius plugin within Ableton. (I'm enough of a nerd that I duplicated Ed Sheeran's Chewie II Monsta Loopa onstage setup.) But for simple fooling around I go to the opposite end of the spectrum with the BOSS RC-1, with a F5-6 connected for Stop and Undo.

@@Relaxandlearnguitar, another idea for a cheap, quick and easy "foot pedal" is to take an old, discarded USB keyboard and pop off the keys you don't need, just leaving a few you can easily tap with your foot. Assign the remaining ones to what you want. (For instance, space is ideal for start/loop.) It's won't last the ages, but it will give you an idea if this looping thing is something worth investing in a real foot pedal.

Can you record the entire solo part with the loops? I’m looking to set up a loop and record a sax solo over it, but record the entire session within GarageBand to release online.

Kevin I just found this lesson. Did you use a mic to record the guitar into GB? Or just the iPad built in one? I’ve got GB on an iPad and wanted to try to create a loop to play along with, eg try out with our recent Sweet Home Chicago lessons and then maybe record a video.

I just used the microphone on the iPad. I know there are devices that you can buy to get better sound and control. iRig makes one. My buddy has used one with some success. But IMO you can start with built in and it sounds pretty good.
