the wiring on the 91 integra is not the same as the description says it is. first the ac harness goes through the firewall with the rest of the headlight harness. also the 91 integra has a oil thermo switch which appears to be wired in with the fans and ac, so when you remove the ac it no longer as a complete circuit and the fans wont turn on. the wiring needs to be switched and i cant figure it out, i know the wiring for fuses 12 and 21 need to get switched but i cant figure out which wires. should be simple too..... fuse----coolant thermo switch--------fan-------ground.

+RamVan Bobby The power is probably a little better because removing both the AC and power steering pump takes away then parasitic draw that both of those create on the crank. As for heat,I don't see much difference. I wouldn't remove them on a car you're trying to keep comfortable and daily drive.

Is The box under the car for the air filter needed? Will it work find with out it?
@GarageBuiltHondas6 жыл бұрын
1. A shop has the required tools to safely evacuate the system. 2. If an old ac compressor has been in an open system for a while, it's recommended it be replaced. Outside air can damage the seals internally. 3. The box under the air intake behind the bumper can be removed.

Hi. I saw your comment on another 1991 Civic SI ac repair and have a question for you, if don't mind. I have 1991 Civic DX and trying to get the AC to work again. A shop a while back converted to R134a but stopped working about a year or so after that. I just recharged it with dye to see if there are leaks, but so far, I am not seeing any. The compressor comes on, fans are working too. Compressor is a Sanden. But my problem is the charge is not holding at all. While recharging, it seems the system does not want to be charged, like the pressure would increase as I am charging but decreases right after that. And so I can't charge it up to any level of good pressure to keep the compressor running. Thank you for your help.
@barryraass62622 жыл бұрын
I just found the original invoices of the previous AC work done on my 1991 Civic Hatchback DX, back in 2005 and 2008. This shop did the R-134a conversion July 2005 at 164K mileage. In August 2008 when I took my car back for AC repair for not blowing cold air, here's what they did: Replaced O-rings due to leak. Charged the system but high side pressure spiked and blew the pressure valve on the compressor. Debris in the system, recommend replacing compressor, receiver dryer, expansion valve and flushing the AC lines.

On a setup like this where its not working, you won't be able to use many of the parts. A new compressor, receiver/drier and expansion valve are needed. You can flush the evap core and condenser but its hard to get everything out of those parts sometimes so its just better to replace those also. I personally would spend the extra $80 for those 2 parts brand new also especially if using all brand new parts elsewhere.

Does your AC work? And I mean work where it blows 45-50 degrees in the middle of summer?

@@GarageBuiltHondas not exactly sure car has been sitting over 7 years haven’t got to check that out . I mean it feels cold. But the fan that isn’t turning on is the driver side one

So i do have a question, whenever you remove the whole ac unit can you still run your air through your car just no ac? or does the whole entire air system not work? like the fan
@GarageBuiltHondas7 жыл бұрын
The evaporator core that I removed from the air box was solely for that purpose. I reinstalled it because the blower fan still pushes the air through it to the heater core and you still retain full heater function.
@importenthusiastchannel7 жыл бұрын
Gotcha! so even if i remove the ac system from a later build that i plan on doing, i can still run those things. sweet

I just got done with installing the AC system job on a 98 Civic. I'm looking into getting this body style civic as personal. Do these use R12 with Ester oil or R-134A (HFC-134) with PAG 46 oil?
@GarageBuiltHondas3 жыл бұрын
Originally an R12 system. Most are converted now as the R12 isn't legally sold and is worse for our environment.
@yanglue6113 жыл бұрын
@@GarageBuiltHondas Ok. Thanks for the information. As in return, the new AC system are running in HFC-1234yf but I'm not sure about the oil. Bigger condenser and different fittings.
@GarageBuiltHondas3 жыл бұрын
You can buy new components for the 88-91 civic. I'd search for a compressor that already has thr pre set amount of oil required in it when purchases. It removes the guesswork from adding oil yourself.
@yanglue6113 жыл бұрын
@@GarageBuiltHondas The guesswork is easy for me. From what I learn is find engine rotation and rotate the compressor the same way as engine rotation. At the same time, fill it just little lower to drain plug. It shouldn't take more than 10 oz bottle or provided.
@GarageBuiltHondas3 жыл бұрын
Sounds good, just make sure you're aware of how much oil is needed in the system before adding too little or too much. Compressors are the same price with or without oil, I'd make the easy choice there. Good luck if you get the 4th gen model and have fun.

So how do I vacuum out the freeyon from the ac ?
@GarageBuiltHondas6 жыл бұрын
The only way at home is to vent it to the atmosphere. If you're going to do that, do it slowly so that the oil in the system doesn't spray everywhere. With that being said, the responsible thing to do is go to someone with a refrigerant recovery system and have them remove it. From what I understand the recovered refrigerant can be recycled or reused, so they may even do it at no cost for the refrigerant...
