Best Golf Mat I've Ever Tested?

In this video we test out the TrueStrike Single Golf Mat in full detail. We also implement our new testing procedure where we hit 20 full shots on real grass and then compare that data side by side with the golf mat we are testing. In addition we compare our current golf mat, the Fiberbuilt golf mat and pit it head to head with the Truestrike Golf Mat and review the numbers for both against golf shots taken on real grass. Lastly we show the golf mat in everyday golf simulation settings and give you our pros and cons list as well as our suggestion on if it is a good quality buy for your golf needs.

Think your different carry numbers are pretty much due to the spin differences. The FB, as you say, if more like hitting from the rough and you are getting more of a "flier" with less spin.

I think the Fiberbuilt is allowing the ball to make contact a bit higher on the clubface, which is doing two things. #1 it reducing some of the spin, and #2 it launches the ball a little higher. High launch and low spin creates more distance.

@@GarageGolf(late comment I know) to be fair your spin difference between the two mats was probably not even statistically significant. You literally were within 1 yard of carry distance. Interesting difference between grass and mats but actually very close. If you put your numbers into the flightcope calculator it's only 4 yards of carry distance, pretty impressive. My biggest takeaway from this was how consistent your swing was -- the same average ball speed? That's kind of amazing -- nice swinging!

Regarding your concern about the putting, I noticed there are other people installed with simulator showing that they can just lay the panel without the trim..... this might solve the putting problem. If I compare the price, I might decide to go for the Fiber built one, also I like the soft feel and thickness compare with the True Strike....thanks for your close up video.

have you tried moving the skytrak onto the true strike slot and putting on the standing surface? ya know just take a step back because you don't need to be that far from the ball and all. still would be a con because you'd have to do more steps to putt but may increase the overall experience of the mat.

Hello Scott. It is identical on both ends with the plastic portion. I'm going to look underneath it to see if perhaps that portion can be disassembled but that is the part I do not like at all about this mat. Thanks for watching!

Great Review... Thanks. I have the True Strike coupled with SkyTrak... I cut a piece of cardboard as an insert for the front (putting issue) then hot glued some turf over the front lip and the piece of cardboard. It's not perfect but it does help putting (at least the ball doesn't JUMP over the lip). Also, maybe this will help some of your subscribers, I have the Tomahawk tees (and Bir tees). They make a "claw" bungee that anchors into your mat where you attach the bungee (an elastic) to the tee to keep it from flying. Rather than using the claw, I just used a couple of sheet rock screws and screwed them into the lip on the side for the TrueStrike, attached the bungees, and tied the other end to the Tomahawk tees. Works like a charm and no more chasing down your tee!

Unfortunately True Strike doesn't last at all. I've gone through four of the hitting sections in just over a year and a half. You hit the same spot and eventually the turf wears down to the point it rips open. But I love the feel. Just wish it lasted longer which it doesn't even when it's just me and my daughter hitting balls. Have you experienced the same thing? Can you see your hitting spot starting to wear down?

Hello Michael, I have not experienced this myself, but in all fairness it would be prudent for me to point out that I am a sweeper and not much of a big divot maker with my golf shot (unless on accident by hitting several inches behind the golf ball of course!! :) I have had mine over a year with no issues so far.

@@GarageGolf is yours fading/ wearing at all where you strike the ball? That's how it starts. Discoloration and then it deteriorates from there. I looked back and it's been two and a half years that I've had it. But they just keep wearing through and ripping. The company has been great about sending replacements but I'm at the point where I'm looking at buying a different mat.

You been using truestike for a while now. Do you notice any wear and tear? Does it still performs like new? My concern is that truestike you are hitting the same spot Everytime. CCE I can turn and rotate my mat. Thanks for your reply.

No at this point I still don't have any major wear on it believe it or not. I am not a huge digger of the golf club, more of a sweeper in my case but have hit plenty of fat shots on there where damage would be easily noticable. Big fan of the mat overall.

Great video. I have a CCE but it’s giving me elbow pain. I was thinking of the TrueStrike because I feel like it would like it the most based on feel but I’m worried about it lasting. I’m not worried about the putting part. Will the hitting part line up with the CCE? Also, how long have you had the TrueStrike and how’s the wear so far?

I would put it in this order: Truestrike, Fiberbuilt, CCE. CCE is the least forgiving on your joints in my opinion and just a bit too spongy under your feet for my personal taste in all honesty. Thanks for watching!

Will the truestrike static (with only 2 panels) be enough to hit long irons or will I need 3 panels? I am 6' tall.

I too am 6 feet tall. If you are just hitting irons you can get away with 2 panels and a hitting mat. If you want to hit driver you will need 3 panels. The gel section will not last, the cover turf wears out and they won’t replace it. I’m on my 3rd gel section and I’m giving up, it has completely fallen apart AGAIN

Oh sorry to hear that. I have heard that from others before. I think an individual's unique swing can cause that as well. I have had mine for a couple of years and have not experienced this but I am more of a sweeper that doesn't take a huge divot.

Little things help a lot. Heavy duty moving blankets behind your screen for bounceback and noise, good quality turf with padding for the floor takes a ton of the echo out. You can buy foam sheets and put them on your ceiling for vibration. All of this will help a ton! Please let me know if I can help in any way further.

I totally respect that. It is more of a personal preference than anything. I do not like the putting on the Truestrike because of that plastic lip. Not a fan at all. CCE was by far the best in regards to putting.

Great comparison ... frankly proves both Fiberbuilt AND TrueStrike both DO NOT compare favorably to REAL GRASS. So if realistic practice indoors (replicating real grass) is your goal, what turf surface MATCHES REAL GRASS? WHAT DEVICE MORE CLOSELY DOES IN FACT MATCH DATA (and feel) ... ball spin rates, launch rates and ball speed all are what must be compared to REAL GRASS DATA therefore the surface you MUST USE or your practice time is wasted, especially for beginners and high handicappers! This is the ONLY DATA comparison that matters and will reveal data accuracy ... TURF SURFACE ... VS ... NATURAL GRASS
