We tackled assembling the bike as a family project. kzbin.infoUgkxzg0clhbtRf2gGxPkVETFKJJKGqdsorQu The package is heavy, but I have 2 teen boys that were able to move it. The written instructions were great- we didn't need to watch the videos, but it was good knowing that the option was there if we needed it. After we were able to get it set up, the boys each rode 3 miles and I rode 8 and the bike stayed quiet. The display is easy to reset, and you can put it on whichever setting you are using (time, distance, calories, etc). I will say that my butt is a little sore from the seat, but that could be because I haven't rode in a while. While it is comfortable for me, it was not comfortable with the seat position for my friend (could not move the seat back far enough and he slightly looked like a kid riding a tricycle that he had outgrown). He also said that the seat hurt his manly parts. We are going to look for a different seat that will be compatible with this bike for him.I did purchase the Wahoo Cadence sensor and strapped it to the crank of one of the pedals. This will sync with my Apple Watch, iPhone and will import data in to my Health app. Wahoo does have other sensors available other than cadence. I can also keep either my phone or my iPad on the display and they both feel pretty secure.

Great review, I agree with pretty much everything you said. As someone who regularly uses both here is my two cents. First either one is great. When going hard the rower is harder on your lungs and the air bike your legs. I'll use a tabata as an example. With the rower it will spike my hart rate and my lungs will be burning. On the bike my legs will be on fire but I can still breath. Not that you can't get your heart rate up on the bike or turn up the damper and fatigue your legs on the rower one just tends to be better than the other in those regards. Also I prefer the bike for recovery, I just find it easier to go easy.

I purchased my Concept 2 about 15 months ago. I absolutely love it and look forward to my workouts every morning 5 days per week. At this point I have logged 1.5 million meters and still going. Mastering the rowing stroke does take some time but once you do master it rowing is much more enjoyable. I may try one of the air bikes some day but for now rowing is king.

I have all 3 of the c2 ergs, and I love each. I wanted to buy an echo bike too, because I think thats also phenomenal, but my wife wanted a treadmill, and so I dont really have much floor space left for the echo bike. If I would have to, I would choose the rower, as thats gives you the most complete workout. That being said, if someone would ask me the question what to buy, I would say the echo bike without hesitation, just because it really is fool proof. No technique and no maintenance needed. And for the record, those who tried rowing, and actually can row wouldnt even ask me what machine to buy, they would have already decided to buy a rower :D

Couple of other points about the C2. First, the technique thing is over done, IMO. Watch five minutes of a how to video on youtube (there are lots) and you are good to go for starters. And, for the person looking for conditioning, having top form is not even something to shoot for, IMO. Inefficiency is your friend for cardio. The other point is, the C2 is excellent for both long steady state and HIIT workouts. I think the airbikes are better suited for HIIT, with studio style bikes best for long steady state. The C2 covers both bases, and everything in between. Finally, the C2 better complements lifting, IMO. While people say the rowing movement is "mostly legs" the fact is, a lot of the power comes with the hip hinge, when you go from 1:00 to 11:00 (or vice versa, depending on how you visualize it. Grooving in that hip hinge helps with deadlifts, RDLs, etc. IMO.

From a cost perspective I would suggest starting with the dual action bike because you can pickup a used airdyne cheap on marketplace so what if it's old you are too and I'm not complaining... If you're looking for more steady state and endurance I would suggest a rower or bikeerg/spin... If you're looking for more HIIT I would suggest a dual action bike... My 2¢ likely worth less than 1¢

I have a setup in my basement with very a low ceiling. i can't even do a standing overhead press with dumbbells because I would put a hole in it. The rower is the only piece of cardio equipment that works so I would definitely recommend it for people in a similar situation (can't stand it up for storage, though).
@caseyclausen2627
@caseyclausen2627 Жыл бұрын
I have the three Concept 2 machines in my basement and use them all, but I'd get the rower and bike before the SkiErg. Main reason, it's easier to watch a show or even listen to music on the bike and rower. For someone starting out, it's just easier to put time on them. The SkiErg, I feel I need to be totally focused on the exercise, and your head is moving around a ton, thrashing about like a freak, but then maybe my technique sucks, lol. The SkiErg does take up almost no space, so that's great. For air bike vs. rower, I think the full body motion you use while rowing is much more natural than the full body motion on the air bike, so I'd absolutely pick the rower over air bike, however I would also consider a stationary bike since it's easy to spend so much time on it. That's the key. Which one are you going to use? Of course each person might be looking for something particular. For a beginner looking to lose weight, I'd say stationary bike. For someone looking to improve cardio with a full body workout, I'd say rower. I feel the SkiErg is a great companion to the rower, but like I said, I'd get that third for most users.

As a crossfitter, I regularly use an Echo bike, a C2 rower, and a C2 skier. The one I bought and rebuild was a model c rowers from C2. For $250 I upgraded the monitor and handle to the latest, replaced the shock cord, chain, axle, sprockets, guide rollers, foot straps, bearings, and some other plastic pieces just for esthetics. $550 total for essentially a brand new rower that is almost the same as the latest rowerg. I bought an Echo bike later, but plan to sell it to my CrossFit box. I just enjoy rowing more, either just a casual time-killer, a 2k for time, or playing in the EXR app.

I lucked out, I put a squat rack, barbell, plates, landmine, dip horns setup together Feb 2020 before home gyms went nuts with lockdowns. My wife was jealous of my semi spur of the moment purchase and she ordered a Peloton. Then her mother wanted a treadmill and wanted to get rid of the C2 she didn't use and unloaded it on us for free around the same time. I already had an adjustable bench and selectech 1090s. It snowballed really quickly into a complete home gym, although I would personally rather have a treadmill than a bike or rower, but with a 2600 sqft basement I will get one eventually, maybe the mother in law will be sick of hers soon!

Used them all. Have an Assault Air Bike Pro and it's amazing. Another plus for the Air Bikes is the fact that they require less mobility compared to a rower. Here I'm thinking of people with injuries or just limited range of movement.
@meisdetermined
@meisdetermined 2 жыл бұрын
But on a rower you don’t HAVE to collapse all the way so even with a rower you can have a limited range of motion and still get a good workout. I would contend that the rower may help you increase your ROM as you warm up and get more limber. The seat is 10 times more comfortable on a rower than a bike too 😂 so for endurance I’d say rower. For HIIT I’d say bike.

It took a couple of months to get truly comfortable with the motion and make it smooth, but I'm still going (rowing) strong three million meters and 150K+ calories later. I have never been in better shape. The machine is also super durable. My used one had more than six million meters on it (hard meters--it was used by collegiate national champions). I started getting a cheap ($330) hydraulic rower and a used exercise bike ($60) a couple of years ago. On their own, they are really boring IMO - but as both the ones ive got have the option to go very low or very high resistance, it allows me to do as high intensity as im comfortable with maintaining for 5 minutes, before i switch to the other for 5 minutes. Using them like this gets a lot less boring than using them separately - and after a couple of rounds on each, 20 minutes feels like it goes pretty fast compared to if i try to do 20 minutes session on just one of them. I still got bored with it after a month or 2 though 😏 I much prefer hiking, and to get my body ready for carrying heavier backpacks, i got myself a 20kg weighted vest and some ankle weights 7 months ago. Using this for going up hills is probably the best workout i have had..! About a month ago, i got a decent selection of dumbbells (from 2 to 15kg), and a few days ago i also got a power tower, so now im starting to feel like my small home gym have some pretty decent potential for a full body workout. Im getting some pulleys and rope in a few days, so then my Power Tower will have the added functionality of a DIY cable station (pretty sure it will work reasonably well)..! Then i just need a bench for sit ups and back extensions, and i will be satisfied ☺

I own and use both for 8 yrs. C2 rower + Echobike. Airbike IS NOT only for HIIT. That's a lazy crossfit myth I see repeated in the comments here. I think the rower is more beneficial. I love my rower. Rower is the ONLY thing I can do when lumbars get acute. But I use my airbike more than my rower, cuz it's more-movements oriented, so it works for push-pull warmups, LISS, arms only, legs only, sugar burns, easier to watch tv, and footprint in living room is a lot less. Rower technique -- it's not nearly as hard as people say. I and wife took to good rowing technique easily. I've checked our technique against training vids, and we're good. It's not nearly as difficult as many suggest.

Skateboard Rower. I sit on a skateboard bracing my feet against a pipe laid across the open side of my squat rack, using the low cable for resistance. I push backwards with legs and pull with back and arms. I use 2 single hand cable handles so I can externally rotate for the pull like when the oars are in the water. I lower my hands and internally rotate for the eccentric like when the blades are just above the water parallel to the surface. From where I put my 🚣‍♂️ boat in I need to row a mile on a narrow river before reaching a wide enough area to allow sailing, and my jury rigged handles do better than commercial rowers at training actual rowing. Also, the plate loading has allowed inclusion of heavier training days that have improved my ability to make way against the combination of headwind with incoming tide.

I got the base model monorail waterrower last winter. Was the best choice for me. Like you say, gotta get the technique down but once that’s done it’s just more enjoyable for me. I look forward to putting it into my workouts. Quiet and stores upright.

I have three Concept 2 apparatus in my garage as part of home gym, Rowing Erg set for Rowing and the second one has a paddle for dragon boating / outrigger and the Concept 2 bike. Rowers are amazing but I wish Concept 2 had a Wind Bike as I'm over 160-Kg (352-pounds +) so with bike in highest drag the fan free spins when I stand to sprint. I have considered getting the Concept 2 Ski erg as Rowing and Skiing are considered some of the most demanding full body sports (wood chopping , ladder climbing beat them). So in conclusion the rower is amazing as you get fitter, stronger and more efficient with technique it will take everything you can throw at it and more. I think the wind bike would break due to weight an power output especially max output, I easily throw in burst over 1000 watts but that's because size and weight.

I wish these rowers would allow for changing grips. Seems like all the rowers force you completely under or over hand when a neutral with even a slightly pronated or supinated would be best.

I would have to agree, the Ski over the Assault bike or Rower, the ski is probably the best workout also. Best thing would be to just get an assault bike and the SkiErg 😊

Got the Spirit AB900 air bike. Used it every day for 1.5 year (30 min / 400 cal - sessions) Imo the two grip options is a must have on an Airbike. Maybe the Schwinn Airdyne AD8 Pro in the future. - Would take an Airbike > Rowing machine any day of the week.

I developed a knee problem...although cycling is Ok. I struggled on my Orbitrek though because of the full weight placed on the knee with the downward rotation. I have just bought a Rower and it's really great. The swap could be a blessing in disguise after recently being diagnosed with high Glucose level as I believe rowing is better for removing belly fat.

I already have a C2 rower. Long term, I'd like a BikeErg, SkiErg, and Echo Bike. First though, I think I'm going for the BikeErg. Do you think that is a good move? I just see it as a bit more versatile than an Echo Bike, so better suited for longer rides but can go high intensity too.

Both but the c2 rower came first. Can do steady state but can also turn yourself inside out if you want to. Assault bike is for punchier workouts and less conducive to longer rides. Certainly can be done but the rower has my vote

I have a Hydrow and to me this is the machine to have. If you can only have one machine, you should get this. I also love bikes and I’m looking to get one. Not sure which … still looking. I’m considering these bikes: ROGUE Echo bike - Concept 2 Ergbike - Nordic Track S22 - Peloton. Rogue Echo Bike vs Concept 2 Ergbike … Not sure what to choose. I know I like to ride for at least 15 , 30 min. Nordic Track S22 vs Peloton …. Here I kind of know that I prefer Nordic Track. Only because I I don’t like watching somebody riding or rowing indoors. Also because Peloton requires you to use bike shoes. I love Nordic Track for their scenic rides. Can’t beat that. Also, I’ll much rather learn something new about the place the instructor is riding on, than hear words of affirmation from Peloton coaches. I find that annoying. Not sure how durable Nordic Track bikes are. For this reason I’m still debating between these two. I’m also considering Stages bike, but the price is too high. So I’ll skip this. Any tips or recommendations would be appreciated.

I have all three and like them: ski, bike, and row. He's right on the technique front, but I think that is worth working on in any fitness routine. Another thing, C2 has great free resources online, daily workouts, calculators, logbook, rankings, challenges, VO2 Max etc...In any case, all three of these can brutalize you, so no worries there!

Indoor cycling smart trainer with Zwift. It kinda puzzles me why the home gym community rarely talks about this option.
@franc102
@franc102 2 жыл бұрын
1000x times this. In every commercial gym I have been to the most popular cardio is running on a treadmill or cycling. When they have things like rowers and assault bikes they are used far less frequently. For someone who is limited on space, I understand not having a treadmill. But the smart trainer takes up very little space (less than the assault bike or rowers) and you use a bike which you likely already have to connect to it.

Honestly man, I HATE every single smart trainer I've tried, Zwift included... the software is a joke, and many of them require subscriptions. I really have no idea why these things have a market. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
@franc102
@franc102 2 жыл бұрын
@@mrkang4080 How many have you tried? Were you using one of the trainers that are direct drive and automatically changes your power output (e.g. Wahoo, Saris, and I believe Zwift just launched their own that is significantly less expensive), or were you using one of the trainers that has smart features such as monitoring your power/RPMS and communicates with a program such as Zwift? Direct drive makes a world of difference compared to a more typical style trainer (where resistance is simply applied against the rear wheel and may communicate your power output to another program like Zwift). If you were using a direct drive trainer I would love to hear why you think the software is a joke. These trainers are the closest thing you will get to riding an actual bike and are what pro cyclists are using when they are training. Yes, Zwift does require a subscription and I would understand not wanting to pay the fee, but you don't need Zwift to use it. Without paying for Zwift you simply wouldn't have access to the training programs or ability to ride with other cyclists, but obviously these are not features you would be getting with an air bike or rowing erg anyway. I would argue that for someone wishing to do longer cardio sessions a cycle ergometer (whether it is smart or not) would be a much better choice for most people. If you are looking to do more interval based training the air bike would be better. All of these equipment have a place in a home gym, but what someone should buy is dependent on what their goals and style of training they perform. A smart trainer setup honestly is not in the same category as an air bike/rowing ergometer, but it is more comparable to something like Peloton (i.e. steady state cardio vs interval training). If you choose your setup properly you would be able to buy a proper direct drive smart trainer over a Peloton bike and still have enough money left over to buy yourself a $1000 road bike that you could also use outside and take up less space in your gym. If you planned to use a bike you already own you could get the trainer for less than the cost of an air bike or rowing erg. The problem is that nobody knows about this option or how choose a proper setup, which would make for excellent content on this channel.

I use both types of machines but if I had to recommend just one to people , Ii would be the air bikes simply 'cos you have the push movement in it as well as the pull movement. Never buy a training bike without handles that move of course.
