The blue showing through looks awesome, but I think that with a glossy black paint it won’t look as cool. Maybe with a matte clearcoat it will look better.

I must say that you nailed the shape of that VW/MR2 real good. Just spray random colours under the black before sanding just so it looks like the parts come from different cars.

Great idea for paint bud 👍 maybe you could try a leafblower and some smoke at a bit of distance to see where the air flow goes. That might help with where to put your patina (for a going fast even when standing still kind of look type thing)

Okay, I got to the end. I reckon go with what YOU like. The Blue rub looks pretty cool and I see where you're going with it. It's definitely a distressed, old-schoolish patina look. It also hangs well with the Bug panels and gives an excuse for any rough-looking bits in the bodywork. "It's all part of the theme, man".

just that solid black looked good. Paint the whole car black, rims and all. Then, add chrome headlight rings, and dark-tinted headlights. Just that one glint of chrome against all that black.

I painted a motorcycle almost the exactly the same. Add another color first then the blue and then the black. Like a dark green primer, blue then black. Then wet sand, have just a little bit of the green show throw in the blue. It will add depth to the paint.

Love the look, I think you can achieve your goals doing what you plan but before sanding, when your black is tacky use lint free towel with acetone where you want the blue to highlight thru. Like a subtle battle worn look. Keep up the amazing work and keep killing it

You've made quite the custom. I would have finished it in shiny black and just got the cheapest Maaco paint job. Taping it off and getting it ready for paint would have made the painters happy that they didn't have to do the prep and I bet they would have repaid the favor an done a nice job. Pure guess. Glad your from Colorado! Comments about Greeley made me smile. Does it still smell like cattle? Had a lot of fun in that town many years ago. All and all very nice work by you and your very funny crew!

I think it's a good idea having the blue showing on the body lines and blacking the centre parts glossing it would make it look good but I don't think it will make it fully gloss because it's clear over primer

The black with the blue scuffs on the body lines looks great but it’s a lot of work. Maybe a simple all black with a white racing stripe would also look good. And save time👍🏽

The best way is to put the colour of the stipes you want and then drizzle dish soap over and then spray over and then rinse when the paint drys and then it'll look sick trust me

the blue petina looks so good..go for it but if u were to clearcoat it dnt go full gloss..mayb semi gloss or full matte it would add up to the color scheme so much better

Blue then black, use seran wrap lay on black and drag it across leaving some blue showing. It might work. I like the seran wrap technique .

I like the lightning kinda design. I think your problem was your tape was too wide. Get some fine line tape in various sizes and I think you can achieve the look you wanted.

I love the intentionally unfinished look! Much more resilient than a perfect glossy paint job on a build meant for ripping! You don't want to feel guilty about a burn out or a gravel road because your paint is too pretty.
