Oh god, season one. What a throwback. Coke Studio before the commercial success, back when it was just a jamming session. The overall quality did improve over the years and get more polished but that first season is still just very nostalgic. I actually love this song. It is about rainfall, and the music and vocals perfectly encapsulate that for me. It's an odd mix of powerful, and mellow- starting off slow and steadily gaining momentum, leading up to Rahat's chaotic interlude to represent the build up of thunder and lightning, before the music, or the "rain" so to speak, kicks back in with a bang. Good stuff. Ali Azmat (bald guy with glasses) is actually a complete powerhouse, and you're right, Jesper, when you say that he had more to give. But he reined himself in because the song was meant to be more about a chill rainy night with hint of storm, instead of being a full blown hurricane anthem. Always interesting to see your views guys, even if you don't quite get it sometimes haha.

This song is from the first season of Coke Studio. If you noticed, there is audience as well. From second season they started recording in studios without audience. It's been 10 years and all the singers and band look very young. Time flies.

Dear Robin and Jesper, i want to tell you that "junoon" band lead by Ali Azmat is the number one rock band of Pakistan after "vital signs". And the song is a combination of not three but two kinds of musicals , The classical "raag" and the rock. That "aaaa" vocal by Rahat Fateh(a classical singer) is called as raag in classical music. Raag means melody in English. Plus "sayonee" song was originally sung by Ali Azmat and no one stands in comparison with him even the coke studio.

Great going guys. Please react to "Neray Ah" from Coke Studio Season 5. This classic song was outcast as vulgar for dual meanings of some of the lyrics but was on everyone's lips once adopted in Coke Studio. Even ran on state-run national channels that are aired even in remotest of areas. Would love to see your reactions on some of the sounds they make. The song earned the acclaim it deserved after being redone by Coke Studio.

This is an old one - from the early days of Coke Studio. Season 1 or 2 I think. Coke Studio has come a long way since then, in terms of production and mixing and mastering. Since you guys connect more to the rock sound, please try "Saari Raat" by Noori from that same time. One of the best rock-sounding tracks from Coke Studio till date. I love what you guys are doing btw, discovered you a couple of hours ago and been binge-watching. Long-time Coke Studio fan and great to see it reaching such a wide audience.

Listen to the original version of Garaj Baras by Junoon (the band)... It is sung solely by Ali Azmat (the rock guy)... It is beautiful... It has many versions (at least video and style wise) to it... It was used in a bollywood movie too titled "Paap" ... You'd love all the songs of Paap too... Rahat has also sung few of those songs... You'd love it...
