On a personal note, I've been a cop for over 27 years. I've seen dead bodies of all varieties, including more than I care to see of gunshot victims. I can tell you that other than somebody sticking a shotgun in their mouth or a high powered rifle under their chin, the head stays intact. I've worked crime scenes where they did stick a shotgun in their mouth. Yup, heads gone. High powered rifle, like a .270 or .30-06 or greater under the chin. Head gone. But they have to get a gas seal. If the muzzle doesn't make contact, the gas expands outside of the wound. What blows a head apart is a good seal and the gas expanding into the wound channel, disrupting the cracked bone. Pictures of dead people aren't shown publicly because there's no reason to and the families don't want to see a dead loved one no matter what shape they're in. They want to take our guns away because we could use them to remove them from power. They don't give a shit about our safety, or your kids. They are trying to get rid of the Second Amendment, so they can stop worrying about the ramifications of taking away the rest of our liberties.

In EMT school, we were taught that in the case of a wound from a rifle round, we had to assume there was tissue damage in a 6 inch radius around the entry wound. Would love to hear a recording of the game of Telephone that turned that into "foot-wide exit wound"
@rascalmatt67132 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a pretty good rule of thumb. I was a Spec Ops combat medic and have been shot twice with an AK47 overseas. Through the thigh and wrist while kneeling. Severed femoral artery, vein ( lost 6cm's of each and had to have 2 saphenous vein grafts harvested from the opposite leg ) and partially severed femoral nerve. EBL was over 2L. Tourniquet was applied in under a minute and i still lost that much blood, passed out and went into hypovolemic shock. Over the next 5-6 days roughly, about 2/3rds of my vastus medialus was debrided away. Medically, I typically tell people who are willing to listen, that tourniquets should always be applied immediately if an arterial bleed is suspected or observed. Trying to apply a "pressure dressing" would have gotten me killed quickly. That's old, outdated doctrine. Ballistically, I typically tell people who are willing to listen, that SPEED is what does the most damage, not shrapnel or tumbling bullets or expanding hollow point bullets. To verify this, i simply tell people to go watch different rounds impact ballistic gel. Rifle rounds are traveling so fast with so much force and energy is at play, that tissue cells literally explode. This is why i had debridements done every day for about 6 days in a row to remove all the dead muscle and other tissue. I also had 4 emergent compartment fasciotomies and developed a DVT. Rifle rounds are no joke. My leg was almost lost. I still have horrible nerve damage.
@JustAGooseman2 жыл бұрын
@@rascalmatt6713 While all of this is true, something to keep in mind is AK-74Ms (what you likely encountered) fires a 7.62x39mmR round, a non-NATO standard for this is .308; whereas an AR platform rifle (what they want banned) fires a 5.56mm round, which is equal to .223; The whole argument loses its merit purely because of that because even though a NATO standard AR cartridge is traveling at 3200f/s upon leaving the barrel and *very quickly* drops to under 2000f/s after 400 yards. Compare this to 7.62 which travels at roughly 2,400f/s and it throws the whole "speed is key" thing out the window. It's ultimately less about the velocity of the round and more of the energy. An AK produces 1,560 ft·lbf at the muzzle whereas a standard AR is producing only 1,294 ft⋅lbf at the muzzle from an equal grain load. Ultimately the damage done is an equation of distance, muzzle energy and velocity.

I think at its largest point a **temporary** wound cavity can get around 15cm / 6in with 5.56, permanent is around half that. It is true that 5.56 to the cranium can split the skull open, though. The question is how's that even relevant, it's a matter of the cartridge , not the platform. A .30-06 bolt action "hunting rifle" would do worse damage to tissue.
@tyrannusrex312 жыл бұрын
Forensics would teach you that exit wounds can determine how far a shot was taken from. Point blank shots tend to have larger exit wounds and a larger radius for blood splatter. This is because the initial kinetic energy is dispersed throughout the body, undiminished by travel. I would think it’s feasible for an exit wound to be over 6 inches depending on the caliber of the round and range of the shot, but I don’t really know if the foot / 12 inch remark was meant to be taken literally. Most Americans don’t know how to measure a foot visually. It’s just an abstract unit to them, like a foot long hotdog, or the actual length of their foot. To me, an exit wound of 6 inches isn’t dramatically different.

Once you realize politicians have the same level of knowledge and blind confidence about firearms as they do about economics and everything else, it really makes you realize that they shouldn’t be allowed to make policy of any kind.

Once again, Ironically enough, probably the one firearm that wouldve done the most devastation to a soft target like that, wouldve been a 12 gauge shotgun. The same firearm that Brandon claims hes "ok" with. Another ironic point to that, is thats probably one of the most common firearms found in any household, as opposed to the scary rifles that are painted black.

I’m definitely looking forward to more RECCE. I suffered through extreme dehydration this weekend and when I felt like all I could do was lie down and die, I remembered one of the episodes where GT said after a day of no water, you’re pretty much useless. Didn’t take it as seriously as I should have, but now I’m rewatching everything with renewed appreciation.

I mean, the temporary wound cavities of the AKM looked like it could be a foot wide, the permanent wound cavities of an intermediate rifle cartridge is not going to come anywhere close to a foot. Definitely allows for the possibility that McBath misinterpreted info, but given she's a rabid anti-gunner, I say she's more than likely intentionally misleading people to sway them to support her agenda.

So you think that because it doesn't make a 1 foot exit wound it's fine ? The result is the same, dead peoples. It's funny that more americans are killed with firearms in the US than outside the US. So now thinking about it, the fact that kids are brain washed in school to join the army is maybe a good thing. Seems safer to be deployed than to be in the US 🤣
