When understanding how the band came up with the name "Garbage," Butch Vig once wrote in his 1993 studio journal about the creative process; "I hope that all this garbage will become something beautiful," and that's exactly what happened. The perfect storm brought Scotland's Shirley Manson all the way to Madison, Wisconsin to join forces with three musicians to shake things up and create something beautifully their own in the mid 1990s.

95 was cathartic... Shirley & the boys were an integral part of it. The production on their records is pristine. Garbage have a nice couple handfuls of true bangers.

I'm usually happy when Garbage is playing at the suitably loud volume

Oh man you’ve found a goldmine. The best way for me to immerse into something has always been to listen to an album start to finish usually laying down with no distractions. It takes about 3 listens and then I’m familiar enough with the material and can really connect with certain songs while others grow. Every Garbage album up to including Bleed Like Me I love 95%. Then they broke up for a while and some life stuff happened but now I’m finding the same with their latter stuff. Pretty amazing for around 30 years of music! Ok, I’m done!😊

Saw Garbage on their first proper tour at Rock City, Nottingham. Was so close to the speakers I was half deaf the next day at sixth form.... what a time to be alive.

Beginning to end, one of my favorite albums from the 90s. Listening to this, among some of my other favorites from that time, transports a part of my brain back and washes it in a flood of random memories. It’s good to just try and stay there for a while

I got to visit with Garbage before they got big. Seville Quarters, Pensacola, Florida in like 1995. They were super personable and put on an amazing show to a small crowd. Saw them again in 1996 when they opened for SP in Biloxi, MS.

I’ll never forget the first time I heard Vow waiting for my now ex-husband was in the bank. It’s rare for me to just love something immediately. The music, the vocals, the lyrics! I’ve been lucky to see them about 5 times and watching Shirley grow from a nervous self conscious performer to the powerhouse she is. Thank you for addressing the crap she got. I remember when Bleed Like Me came out and she did an interview but I just saw the responses mocking her for talking about hidden scars. Now, more people would understand what she meant! The band were always ahead of social issues, LGBTQ+, female sexuality/feminism and yes I think people were threatened or intimidated by Shirley and many felt they needed to take shots or twist her words. The band was above it all though. Thanks for a great trip to one of my favorite bands and an album where I found a soul sister in Shirley. And you are right on the money about music pretty much being a Time Machine. Sometimes something I haven’t heard in decades come on and it sends me right back to a memory and even the physical feelings I felt at the time but had forgotten. Incredibly powerful. Thanks Jacob it’s so cool listening to someone who thinks and/or feels so similar to me. We’re pretty awesome lol!

@@JacobGivensHey just wanted you to know this is the first notification I’ve gotten since your L7 Sunday thingy (sorry, brain issue girl here). I checked and YT didn’t unsub me, and I’ve got all notifications. I just looked back and saw everything I missed! I thought maybe you were on vacation and time passes strangely when your in my position (bed everyday). I always comment. I’m wondering if other people are dealing with this. I know YT doesn’t really care, but I’ve heard of this happening to other creators but this is my first time. Well, more like multiple in a row. Just fyi. But that’s frustrating for sure. Before I’d just get them late.

Dude! I feel like I was watching myself here!!! Lol. my sisters say I know every 90’s song out there but I really don’t. I’m constantly getting caught listening to that stuff. I miss it so bad but I think I really just miss the days I spent as a teen listening to the music. I remember every bit of where I was when I heard songs for the first time and it super nostalgic. Thank you for doing this because you definitely know more than me 😂 well whatever nevermind.

Have you heard of this band "Travis"? Their albums are really good but their album "the man who" is just a masterpiece :) would you do a video? By the way, I went to spotify to check out "the last dinner party" and to my surprise i was already following them!
