Garbage Story Time! The year Bowie passed I worked live video for a Garbage/Blondie show and when we got to the venue, Shirley and the band were doing a sound check. Usually it's finished way before I get there, some bands like to jam or just have things to work on. The venue is Bethel Woods, built on the original site of Woodstock, often becomes sort of a pilgrimage for many of the artists that come thru. She was sitting on a stool with a bottle of water and they were practicing their rendition of Starman, they did not play it during their set as it still had parts they were working on I think. I think they just couldn't resist playing it given the location and how much the music world had been missing David, and it was a surreal moment for anyone who got to see it. We were all humming it in between sets backstage haha.

Bowie has nothing to do with Woodstock and the musicians there saw Bowie as a bit of a joke, an attention seeking popstar which he was but that's why he was great. But Bowie was not a musician or even a songwriter he done music for fame,he was unique. For example I can't imagine him just sitting indoors playing his guitar on his own and let's face it all his great work was in collaboration.

David mentioned many bands he liked over the years and he worked with some of them, such as Nine Inch Nails, Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins. I never recalled him banging on about Garbage. I think they are criminally underated and were overshadowed by the likes of Oasis and Blur in the 90s, as were many female artists. Shirley documents this in songs such as Godhead. The music industry run by powerful misogynistic men.

Good to have you back Garbage. It's been a long strange journey. The new album is dark and I love it! I feel like you've found your roots on this album. I just ordered the deluxe version off Garbage.com. Can't wait to get it! I finally had to toss the T-shirt I bought at your concert at Mill City in Minneapolis years ago. I wish I could find another like it. The one with the eyes on the back.
