18:07 I think I’ve seen that car somewhere. It’s a Shitbox rally car. It’s a cancer charity rally where you buy a car for around $1,500 and drive it around the outback with other people. The Shitbox rally sticker is usually placed on the driver side and passenger side door of the car, and it’s usually circular. As to why it’s a massive ball, I think it’s meant to be a reference to testicular cancer and it’s highly encouraged in the rally to paint up/decorate your car whatever you like (whether it’s from something you like or completely original). You also have to raise $5000 in sponsorship money to cross the start line, so that explains the sponsorship stickers on the fenders. Hope this helps. Btw, the Shitbox rally also has a KZbin channel if anyone is interested.

Yeah, Canadian, same here. That Epica was a Chevrolet and Suzuki over here, and it's really easy to see how Porsche did the engineering for the engine design, but Daewoo built it. It's got corners cut everywhere. We got the Corolla rebadged as a Chevrolet Nova, then Geo Prizm, then Chevrolet Prizm instead of the Camry. We also got a car almost unique to North America: the Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe twins. Toyota saw the styling on the Vibe, liked it, and debadged it and sold it as the Voltz in Japan. We got Daihatsus here, but they had a pretty good rep until they needed parts. They're 99% gone from the roads, and due to import taxes there never were many Rockys and Charades on the the road in the first place. Canada got UK Ford and Vauxhall imports into the 1970s, but getting any info on them is super rare.

The Falcon Wagon at 4:38 was in the Shitbox rally, a Cancer council fundraiser where cars purchased and fixed for under $1500 drive across the country. Signatures on the dash would have been from the driving team. Shame to see that it ended up in a wreckers but whoever put it there bought it for next to nothing and then drove it across some pretty rough roads. Might have even failed during the rally. The photos of the wreck were pretty horrifying, the car was obliterated but the cabin was intact. The Cruze gets a lot of hate from car people, and I understand. It was a completely unremarkable automobile. But the Cruze is okay in my book. The car itself was what saved that girl’s life. I will always, always have a soft spot for the Chevy Cruze.

My favourite fact about the XJ40 is that when they were developing it Austin Rover (who owned Jaguar at the time) wanted to save money, ditch the Jag V12 and put a Rover V8 in it. In response the Jaguar engineers made the engine bay too narrow to fit a V configuration engine, so the only suitable engine available was the Jaguar straight 6 (it was only at the very end of the generation, after Ford bought Jaguar, that the engine bay was modified to fit the V12)

My Dad used to race a 1966 ford transit. It was a project he had with a friend of his. they swapped in a v6 out of an old Capri they bought. straight pipe exhaust, cause czech village race regulations. ripped up everything except the front seats and the speedo. after a few races they painted it black and yellow and called it the bumblebee. cause they straight pipe exhaust sounded like a czech communist era cropduster plane of the same name, which was unironically the best handling, and agile plane of its time, if you ran it low on fuel, and with no fertilizer and the dusting system removed. the thing became a legend, but the last time i saw it. It was sitting collecting dust in a 16th century barn. long story short. they are great vehicles.

Mentioning sentient cars in a junk yard reminds me of the movie "The Brave Little Toaster". If you've never seen it, you should give it a go. But be prepared for a children's movie from the 1980s to mess with your head. I still remember the range of emotions I felt from this movie to this day!

Saw an ‘89 Camry V6 wagon in our local U-pull last year. I still have photos. Interior and exterior were SO CLEAN for its year, such a clean example of the late 80s save for a small dent on a fender or something. Wish I had money to save it, as man, ones that clean in wagon form, V6 or not, are so rare, as are Camrys from that generation anymore at all. It didn’t deserve to be crushed.

My sister-in-law used to have a 1.4L Cruze. It died at 7 years old from (you guessed it) turbo failure. If you can nab one with the 1.8 and a manual, you've got yourself a pretty solid car.

1:24 We had one of these when I was a little boy! Same color, style, and in a manual. It's the car that made me fall in love with cars. We called it the Celly. It was a 1984, which I think was the last year it was RWD. Great little car. The radiator fan didn't work anymore so the engine overheated all the time, except when you were doing 100. I was told that when it was finally parked, it had over 600,000 k's on it. It still ran. They just got newer cars and didn't want to drive it anymore. Good old Toyota R engines _never_ die. If that's an R, I bet it still runs.

Love the Mazda2, my first car and I've nearly put 50k miles on it still runs like day 1 even after curbing it trying to drift in the snow. It's got a surprising amount of space inside, I put the seats down and joke it's my micro-van. I've hauled mattresses and fridges with it without any issues, even done multiple house moves with some pre-planning in my student days.
