Matiz, a true legend. A joke from back in the day: A guy comes to a bar, orders vodka, downs it and says "Ptui! Fuckin Matiz". He orders another, downs it and says "Ptui! Mother fuckin Matiz". It continues for a while until the barman asks: what happened? -I managed to get my semi with two trailers into a ditch. I was just trying to figure out what to do, when this guy in a Matiz stops and says to hook the chain and he'll pull me out. -No way. -Exactly. So I say: if you manage to pull my semi with that Matiz, I'll blow you -And what happend? -Ptui! Fuckin Matiz...

18:07 I think I’ve seen that car somewhere. It’s a Shitbox rally car. It’s a cancer charity rally where you buy a car for around $1,500 and drive it around the outback with other people. The Shitbox rally sticker is usually placed on the driver side and passenger side door of the car, and it’s usually circular. As to why it’s a massive ball, I think it’s meant to be a reference to testicular cancer and it’s highly encouraged in the rally to paint up/decorate your car whatever you like (whether it’s from something you like or completely original). You also have to raise $5000 in sponsorship money to cross the start line, so that explains the sponsorship stickers on the fenders. Hope this helps. Btw, the Shitbox rally also has a KZbin channel if anyone is interested.

@@DaBoomDude Kinda, that’s to help disabled and sick children. Plus the car has the be around 30+ years old to enter the bash and is more expensive to get into. The Shitbox rally only requires a car that’s around $1,500 and $5000 in sponsorship money to help fund cancer research. They also help with funding the small outback towns they visit. Yeah, Canadian, same here. That Epica was a Chevrolet and Suzuki over here, and it's really easy to see how Porsche did the engineering for the engine design, but Daewoo built it. It's got corners cut everywhere. We got the Corolla rebadged as a Chevrolet Nova, then Geo Prizm, then Chevrolet Prizm instead of the Camry. We also got a car almost unique to North America: the Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe twins. Toyota saw the styling on the Vibe, liked it, and debadged it and sold it as the Voltz in Japan. We got Daihatsus here, but they had a pretty good rep until they needed parts. They're 99% gone from the roads, and due to import taxes there never were many Rockys and Charades on the the road in the first place. Canada got UK Ford and Vauxhall imports into the 1970s, but getting any info on them is super rare.

It was supposed to be red, but had turned into a patchy pink in the sun, ugly! A mate who was 6'4 somehow squeezed into the back seat for a ride, he hit his head so hard, when I went over a speedbump (at speed), on the rear window it cracked the glass and gave him concussion. Ahhh, Happy memories!

The Falcon Wagon at 4:38 was in the Shitbox rally, a Cancer council fundraiser where cars purchased and fixed for under $1500 drive across the country. Signatures on the dash would have been from the driving team. Shame to see that it ended up in a wreckers but whoever put it there bought it for next to nothing and then drove it across some pretty rough roads. Might have even failed during the rally. I reckon Wade would enjoy going on one of the rallies, given the number of appropriately priced cars he has :D Give the rally a search, it's a great time Edit: the testicle car at 18:06 is also a rally relic, check your bags

Many years ago, I was in a relationship with a really sweet girl who was in a major head on collision in her Cruze. She survived and made a full recovery. The photos of the wreck were pretty horrifying, the car was obliterated but the cabin was intact. The Cruze gets a lot of hate from car people, and I understand. It was a completely unremarkable automobile. But the Cruze is okay in my book. The car itself was what saved that girl’s life. I will always, always have a soft spot for the Chevy Cruze.

My favourite fact about the XJ40 is that when they were developing it Austin Rover (who owned Jaguar at the time) wanted to save money, ditch the Jag V12 and put a Rover V8 in it. In response the Jaguar engineers made the engine bay too narrow to fit a V configuration engine, so the only suitable engine available was the Jaguar straight 6 (it was only at the very end of the generation, after Ford bought Jaguar, that the engine bay was modified to fit the V12)

It had sounds of an engine failing to crank over and start, and there was a voice over that said something like "Are you driving an old bomp?". I didn't realise they were saying "bomb", probably due to my kid ears and/or the sound system in the Mitsubishi Magna we had at the time.

My parents had a 2001 Taurus wagon with the 24v DOHC engine. Had a jump seat in the front to haul 6 people, and it did, with all our luggage across the country and through the Alberta/BC rockies. An option for that car were 2 rear facing jump seats, for a total of 8 passengers! Holy moly would it scoot! Similar power to a the 328 of similar vintage! I can still remember how soft the cloth interior seats were. In 2009 we sold it to a art muesuem curator who sought the car specifically for the engine. YEARS later in 2017, I recognized the missus of the guy who bought the car and asked about it. They put 120,000 MORE km on it before it ran outta coolant and died. RIP mom's waggo and shout out to the Ferd engineers Edit: Glad to hear you still have ole mate merc!

It really pissed her off since she loves that car and it’s in great condition, but at that age most people will just see it as some old car. Same with the Chevy Lumina and Dodge Intrepid I grew up in; perfectly cromulent at the time, but after a while seemed out of place on the road in a “they’re probably still driving that because they have to” kind of way.

Turns out the fuel tank was degrading somehow, and if you used more than a 1/4 tank of fuel, it would start to suck in the fuel tanks flakes and stall the engine. Filling it back up to a full tank would "fix" it though. She drove that thing until a driver T-boned her in an intersection and put the poor Galant out of it's misery.

A junkyard is a junkyard, and the one constant in them all will be the presence of the Chevy Cruze, Chrysler PT Cruiser, and Kias. After all, CRUZE stands for Corpse Running, Unreliable, Zonked and Explosive. The PT in PT Cruiser stands for Piece of Trash and KIA means, in military terminology, "Killed In Action."

Had a ford Taurus wagon years ago, went thermonuclear driving it home once as it had no coolant. Somehow didn't blow the head gaskets lol. But boy it got hot, stayed hot for hours too.

Omg same! We had an 04 (my birthyear) Ford Taurus named Katie after the hurricane that we got off my mom's dad, and one day it overheated just before the major roadway we were taking to go somewhere (probably my grandma's) the year we bought it. It got fixed up though, and it made it a couple more years until my dad got sideswiped by a 12 point buck and destroyed the car

My Dad used to race a 1966 ford transit. It was a project he had with a friend of his. they swapped in a v6 out of an old Capri they bought. straight pipe exhaust, cause czech village race regulations. ripped up everything except the front seats and the speedo. after a few races they painted it black and yellow and called it the bumblebee. cause they straight pipe exhaust sounded like a czech communist era cropduster plane of the same name, which was unironically the best handling, and agile plane of its time, if you ran it low on fuel, and with no fertilizer and the dusting system removed. the thing became a legend, but the last time i saw it. It was sitting collecting dust in a 16th century barn. long story short. they are great vehicles.

Mentioning sentient cars in a junk yard reminds me of the movie "The Brave Little Toaster". If you've never seen it, you should give it a go. But be prepared for a children's movie from the 1980s to mess with your head. I still remember the range of emotions I felt from this movie to this day!

Saw an ‘89 Camry V6 wagon in our local U-pull last year. I still have photos. Interior and exterior were SO CLEAN for its year, such a clean example of the late 80s save for a small dent on a fender or something. Wish I had money to save it, as man, ones that clean in wagon form, V6 or not, are so rare, as are Camrys from that generation anymore at all. It didn’t deserve to be crushed.

1:24 We had one of these when I was a little boy! Same color, style, and in a manual. It's the car that made me fall in love with cars. We called it the Celly. It was a 1984, which I think was the last year it was RWD. Great little car. The radiator fan didn't work anymore so the engine overheated all the time, except when you were doing 100. I was told that when it was finally parked, it had over 600,000 k's on it. It still ran. They just got newer cars and didn't want to drive it anymore. Good old Toyota R engines _never_ die. If that's an R, I bet it still runs.

Love the Mazda2, my first car and I've nearly put 50k miles on it still runs like day 1 even after curbing it trying to drift in the snow. It's got a surprising amount of space inside, I put the seats down and joke it's my micro-van. I've hauled mattresses and fridges with it without any issues, even done multiple house moves with some pre-planning in my student days.
