I've always loved support classes. Since not everyone is great at shooting mechanics (like myself) so being able to support other people who are actually good at the game and being rewarded for it is such a good thing in my opinion. Doesn't work for every shooter/game but for large scale battles it's a must have imo.

In bf1 it was actually amazing. the medic class had some hidden gems when it came to weapons (like the avtomat, one of my favs) that made the class even more rewarding. You can essentially help your team two-fold if you are a skilled player by getting kills and reviving fallen allies.

Medics are sorta notorious for not reviving in bf1. On top of that, like you said, its not a very picked class in bf1, I usually only see 4-5 medics on a team. Players have kinda developed a cynical attitude not expecting anyone to revive them.
@spaghettiwaffles3 жыл бұрын
The talk about classes reminds me of Planetside 2, where the medics can make a push seem like it has twice as many people, but they won't be getting as many kills as the heavy assault troopers. It's better in Planetside, however, because healing gives a fair amount of points, and reviving a teammate gives the same amount of points as a kill.

@christophernoneya46353 жыл бұрын
I loved planetside 2 but honestly I was kinda annoyed with how they handled medics, or perhaps it was mapdesign on top of that. Every (indoor) fight would devolve into 2 teams dying over and over in a single doorway while medics revived them, it was a meatgrinder that would go on until enough players on one team got bored of being revived and then instantly dying that they chose to respawn somewhere else. The main problem in my eyes was the medics could revive more or less infinitely and without penalty, much risk, or time leading to stalemates. Honestly I think when it comes to medics I think TF2 probably handled them best, seeing as while they did create stalemates like mentioned above they also gave them the most powerful tool to end stalemates (the uber charge). Support classes are super valuable assets to a game tho, I totally agree that they should award more or less the same as the other parts of the game. No player should be punished for choosing to help their team and there should be more casual options for players who need it
@spaghettiwaffles3 жыл бұрын
@@christophernoneya4635 Don’t get me wrong, you’re totally right about the doorways, but that’s also the whole purpose of the Light Assault as well as a large part of the infiltrator and heavy assault classes. All three of those classes have weapons and tools that are excellent for breaching and flanking (flashbangs, jump jets, and C4 on LA, cloak for infil, and concussion grenades and the thumper for HA) which help a team push so long as those people are present. The issue is similar to medics in most games: people don’t want to play them that way, primarily bc it’s difficult to do that compared to LMG Adrenoweave heavy assault with maximum HP, maximum mag size, and no need to do anything other than push up with the team and click heads Edit: also, it helps if you’re pushing with a squad bc then the person doing the breaching/flanking can communicate when they’re doing it so the rest of the squad knows to push up and clean house. Also, it takes more people coordinating the higher the population gets, so in a populated area, one LA won’t be able to clear a room the same way as in an area with only two squads total. Also about map design, there’s no area on the map that only has one entrance and is important to the battle, so there’s almost always a flanking route One thing i think a lot of people forget easily about planetside is that when you have that many people on one map, you have to win through actual tactics, not just K/D, bc even if you can kill 5 people before you die, there’s often 20 people there. You have to coordinate with a team and use strategy to win also, it’s not TDM, so high K/D only helps the team if you’re using it to capture and hold territory

BF4 in my eyes will always remain the pinnacle of the Battlefield experience. The maps, the weapons, the synergy between the classes, it all just works together so well. BF2042 tried to be "Innovative" but instead DICE seemed to just dig their own grave with it. As Garbaj says, Specialists just completely take away "Class" balance in a sense, since everybody can spec their loadout to do whatever they want, without any limit. Something I liked about BF4 was some Community Servers would put caps per team for how many of each class each team could have. I find that to be a great approach in terms of balance, which the Specialists in 2042 completely throws out the window.

This is the moment when I equipped a binocular. The thing that not everyone knows, is that binocular lets you watch someone without letting your head be seen, so no other sniper could kill me. And also another thing with binocular is that it literally gives everyone a wall hack in your team. The reason why we lost so much was pretty much bc of how enemy team was continuously flanking us, but by simply showing my comrades where enemies were, it all just went our way. The role of the medic in vattlefield games absolutely is to get kills. Medic weapons are hella strong throughout the franchise. Even in BF1, the assualt class has mainly short range weapons and the support doesn't do well with mobility, so the medic is sort of the default/middle ground of offensive play. This is probably the most important tweak battlefield games made to the class based formula, because in almost any other game, nobody wants to play healer since people are in it for the combat most of the time and the mechanics of healing aren't as fleshed out anyway.

Don't get me wrong, it is fun, it has great moments and it is by no means terrible. But even in a short amount of playtime I encountered a lot of bugs. It also happened regularly that the teams were really unbalanced, which of course is caused by having to join servers and not being able to take advantage of a matchmaking system. Also, the movement feels pretty good and fluid most of the time but the few times where you just can't jump over a tiny wall or slide off of a slope just are annoying. Not to mention lying down. For some reason, the legs are always behind the player. Meaning you will get pushed away from a wall if you're not careful. Games like Rainbow 6 Siege did that so much better (If I remember that correctly, it's been a while since I last played that) Like, it's fun if you don't take it seriously. Would I play it alone (as in, without my friend)? No. Would I actually buy it if it wasn't in the game pass? Only if heavily discounted. Honestly I don't know how much it is right now and it doesn't really matter. But you saying BF1 is a great game, even if this just means it is a great game in the battlefield series... oh boy. Every game should have a server browser and the option for community hosted lobbies. Even when a playerbase has dwindled and official servers have closed the multiplayer experiance can still be preserved. Also imo battlfield 1 is by far the best game in the series, the more modern games like 4 and especially 2042 feel too fast, with everyone running and jumping around spraying automatic weapons. I think the ww1 setting really let dice slow the combat down (at least for a bf game) in a way that felt much more interesting. Also there is nothing cooler than getting a squad full of support players to rain down morter fire on an objective in operations.

I noticed the same thing with D&D, with every expansion the classes are losing more and more of their distinctiveness. Instead of expanding the classes in a unique way, the focus turned on customizability, blending everything into a blob.

Right on the spot, these are some of the features that made me love battlefield. Server browser allowed me and my friends to play together even if against one another, while it also allowed us to change servers in case a toxic/cheater player joined the round. The classes system was just so good because it required everyone to work together, maybe I'm good at being in the frontline, so I would pick the medic, leaving the responsibility of taking down enemy aircraft to other players. The old ways are indeed, sometimes better.

Another good thing of Battlefield 1 and the older Battlefields is that there is the ability for player hosted servers. These servers can help deal with hackers that the anti-cheat cannot catch and allow communities to form with regulars. You play on there enough you might make new friends instead of randomly meeting a bunch of new people each round.

Classes in bf were always an afterthought - they were there but everyone played medic - perhaps engineer if they used vehicles. Support? Useless - can get ammo from elsewhere (mainly dead enemies).

Along with being able to select servers, being able to HOST your own dedicated server is also important. This allows communities to build their own infrastructure later when the official servers get shut down.

I remember making a comment about how server lists are pretty good and that new games need them
@igorlukyan2063 жыл бұрын
That’s what I love about this game. Scouts actually SCOUT, having that enemy information is key to know when and where to advance/defend. Support actually SUPPORTS, holding down choke points or laying down suppressive fire for your attacking squad and handing out needed ammo

BF1 is considered “old school battlefield”? Damn I am old. BF3 and Bad Co. 2 are what I consider old school which are like 8 years before BF1. I would also like to note that BF3 introduced the server browser to the franchise and it worked beautifully.

Another thing I like about games that have a server browser is that most of the time they have that server browser so you can host your own server so if you wanted to play with your friends you would be able to go on your own server that you own and potentially modify the game have a fun experience, etc

Playing your class role is always satisfying for me. I normally play as a scout, and make as much use as I can out of the periscope and spot flare to help my team push objectives, and it's fun to play aggressive like that with the 1895 trench or 1903 experimental

Battlefield 1 is probably my favorite shooter of all time. It just plays extremely well and is a ton of fun with cool weapons. Battlefield V is actually pretty good even now even after its rough start. Hopefully 2042 will follow and get fixed to a point where it is good. It has already gotten tons better so I still have hope even after the abysmal launch.

Support characters are important for immersion of a game like battlefield. It's like the healer to your party. It builds teamwork too.

As several other comments have noted support classes are awesome for people like me who can’t aim. I love being a medic/engineer, or in a lager scale game like bf sniper as I can take a more passive role. That’s why I love OPs like Kapkan in R6 Siege

Actually what I love about Battlefield is being a small part of a accomplishment. You might not be a most Fragger but blowing up a tank in a sneaky way could be more beneficial than ten. Sometimes you and few other guys run from very side of the map to the safest objective of the enemy team to slow a little bit down the enemy team progress is such an awesome and unique feeling. Everyone could not be a good aimer but as in real life, you can change or try to change things just by some tactics and your brain. After all effort being a part of a victory (even though some guys nails helicopters, tanks or planes) is a good feeling.

Here’s a tip: f you ping a dead teammate’s revive icon as a medic, you will show up on their screen as an “incoming medic.” Makes people skip their revive timer a lot less.

Btw it seems that your only seeing a fraction of the servers because your filter of free slots is checked, if you have it set to “none” you can see even more servers normally with a q obviously, but this also opens up the game to operation, my personal favorite game mode. Because there isn’t many servers at one time playing them, there usually full and have a q.

Old school Battlefield is still my favorite. Right back when 1942 and Battlefield 2 were around, even Battlefield 3 more or less kept the old style.

BF3 was a huge graphical upgrade but gamplay wise a massive downgrade. Allmost all of the tactical parts of bf2 were removed in favour of run and gun spawn almoost anywhere stuff. Playing sniper was ruined with the light up scopes and unlocking parts for the vehicles made playing them a chore. I still played it at the time but imho battlefield went from good tactical gameplay to cod but with tanks.

Even in games like valorant or rainbow six seige I see this problem occurring where at the start each character had a unique and clearly defined role on the team but as more characters got added basing your strategy around abilities as a team became less important than just getting kills

Server browsers are legit the best way to do multiplayer and the shift away from them is probably one of the worst things to happen to multiplayer FPS or even online games in general.
@dee_sgusting3 жыл бұрын
the server browser is now built into "portal" wich now houses not only the normal gamemodes but also the community made custom ones wich works just the way you showed but you also have the "easy" and streamlined way of "joining a multiplayer game" and thats it...i fully support your point on the classes tho...its cool that you have more variety like in 2042 but its very blurry where as in the first battlefield you had much more clear roles that you chose instead if a gadgets it feels. great video as always

Server Browsers are so cool, it also allows for custom rule sets and even modded content, you also forgot to show that not only you have filters, but you can also click on each category to sort by them, show server from lowest to highest ping, highest to lowest player counts, group by maps, group by mode, sort server names alphabetically, etc... And yes, suport classes and characters are under rated.

I love a good class system! Playing roles in a game increases your fun by forcing you to make a proper strategy by teaming different classes to get closer to victory. For example, letting a tank take damage as a medic keeps healing him. There are not only gameplay advantages but overall making you more intelligent.

I really, really liked Battlefield's server browser. It felt so good when you found a good reliable server that you could favorite and come back to day after day
@Nekonaut_aka_Jebus3 жыл бұрын
The downside to a server browser though is that for a really popular server(s) it's difficult to join and can put you in a line and make you wait to get in. Thus making joining with friends all the more challenging.
