Every riff has been played by someone before. By your logic every song is stolen because every riff, bassline, or whatever else, has been played by someone else before. Thats not how it works though. None of the people who used some form of this riff, stole the riff. All of them took inspiration from someone elses riff, then changed the riff a bit (maybe changing the order the notes are played, changing the tempo, changing a note, playing in a different key, playing on a guitar vs a bass or vice versa) along with every other part or the song beinf completelt different COMPLETELY. Hollow hills, life goes on, 22 faces, and eighties, are definitely somewhat similar to each other given that theyre all post punk/new wave songs, however they are all still very different songs, and besides the main riff they didnt “copy” anything else from whatever band inspired them with the riff. And as far as come as you are, that song is just COMPLETELY different lol saying they copied another song is completelt idiotic with how unique it is from any other song. The only similarity is the riff played during the verses and in the background during the guitar solo, which again isnt even a direct copy because like every other person who used the riff, Kurt made changes to it so its similar to the other riffs but technically not even the same riff. Plus he came up with the completely different riff during the chorus, and he came up with the completely different guitar solo, which is more than a lot of the other bands did when using the riff in a song.

dude there have a stupid artist in my country says " there is only 7 notes in music how much of different song artist can do " this doesn't even relate the songs only the effects are same and so many effects used by so many artists there is no copy right on guitar effect thats why in same era songs sound the same, in van halen era everybodies guitar effect is like in "Jump" thats not mean every notes is same in jump there have couple of notes back to back same with come as you are but not in exact same key or same notes, if there would be intentional or so obvious similarities they'd get sued cause thats what others did when that happend.
