The fiddle leaf fig tree was kept in a darker environment for a few weeks. It started showing brown patches on the tips of the lower leaves. After some research, I came to the conclusion that it was suffering from root rot. This was likely due to the environment change (lower water consumption in darker environment). Before I started taking actions, it dropped most of its lower leaves. It's not looking good.
I cut the top of the tree off to encourage growth from lower nodes. I also moved it to a sunnier spot in the house. In a few weeks, new growth buds started forming from the top few nodes. It has now recovered from the root rot and it is looking fuller and happier again.
