I wish I had a garden room. I love natural light it just lifts my spirits. I filled it with plants and candles. I've enjoyed spring, summer, and the beginning of fall. Deer, birds, lizards, and squirrels meander by. I have a room like this at the back of my house. I live in an old farmhouse on 3 acres built in the 1850s in Pennsylvania. There is an addition at the back of the house which is from 1920. It is two rooms comprising a kitchen and a room like this one in the video. I've been calling it my great room but I'm going to start calling it my garden room. I have 3 antique colonial style china cabinets in it along with an antique colonial table and chair set. The room has a sink. I also have my electric stove and dishwasher in this room. I am planning on adding a wood stove in the room and a wood cookstove to the kitchen. I really like the way this room in the video is decorate with so many garden items. I am going to be adding some ceiling baskets and a farm table. I want also to add more books and little creatures. I was concentrating on antique dishes but the garden theme makes it extra cozy. Thank you so much for this video.

Sounds to me like an ideal garden room, go ahead and add the antique dishes too... you'll want to have a pot of tea while you enjoy your room.

@@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow Thank you for your reply. That room has a concrete floor with some old tile that needs removing and the floor needs leveling. I’ll probably paint it later. Also, just had a new roof put on that part of the house and tore out ceiling drywall so I have a vaulted ceiling and beams by default. That’s where I’ll hang baskets. Lots of work to do in that room. But I am gaining much inspiration from watching your videos. 😊 PS I am now painting my living subfloor and aging it with stain after seeing the beautiful results you achieved with stenciling and staining your floor.

Hi Jeri. Your videos are always works of art and this one is another beautiful video! As a custom floral decorator of more than 50 years I always look forward to your gardens and the art you create with your perfectly imperfect dried flowers. Some people like "picture perfect" arrangements. That's OK for people who are willing to buy factory manufactured items or as I have referred to them for years, " FTD Schlock". Unfortunately, commercial flower growers have been breeding flowers to the point that they have bred the most important part ( in my opinion ) of the roses....the fragrances! I'll take the perfectly imperfect garden roses over commercial stuff any day. I hate the "perfect" pears that are produced and canned. When I was a child in grade school I'd give my bland, boring, almost soggy canned pears to a kid whom I suspected got no fruit at his home. He was happy and I didn't have to eat the things. Your organic pears remind me of our pears. Today we had a friend of 30 years over for a while. I made a salad that I'd like to share with you. I peeled, seeded, and sliced the pears; peeled and sliced some of our cucumbers, artichoke hearts, some fresh arugula, tossed in some almonds, and thinly sliced a small red onion, and made a vinaigrette of red wine vinegar, olive oil, honey, lemon juice, Thai sweet and spicy chili sauce, salt, and freshly cracked pepper. I sprinkled some fresh peppermint leaves from our garden on top and since I didn't have a fresh baguette I served the salad with old fashioned Triscuits! DELICIOUS and filling ! It would be great with your favorite tea...
@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow4 жыл бұрын
For years I gave all the pears to our animals as they were hard as rocks. This is the first time they've actually ripened to the point of being really great cooking pears... we must have 1000's of them. I don't know what I will do with them... canning, drying, and freezing, I suppose. I love the recipe for the pears! Perhaps you would allow me to share it on a video?
@rwatts21554 жыл бұрын
@@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow Hi Jeri. Absolutely you are more than welcome to share the salad recipe on a video! As for the pears, if you dry them you can use the dried and reconstituted pear slices to make pear turnovers. I first tasted them and dried apple turnovers that were made by an Amish friend. They had a more concentrated and intense flavor of the pears and apples. Add some toasted walnuts or pecans to the cooked fruit fillings before spooning the fillings onto the pie dough. I'm going to make some this weekend and I'll add just a touch of cheddar cheese to the fillings to experiment with that. Oh! I made some turnovers last year with the fruits and cooked pork tenderloin. That is delicious!

What can I say? Beautiful. Just a note. In some states, picking wildflowers is a nono. Of course, weeds do not fall in this category. We are not even supposed to pick up pine cones or rocks. This is in our forests but it private land we can as long as we own the property. This is true of the wikdflowers designated even on side of the roads. If one picks, there may be more that follow thus decimating a nature area. I am sure majority knows this but I have read comments not on your posts of people complaining they can't stop on side of road to pick wildflowers. Hope I didn't cause issues but with everything including plants I rather look than pick. I love your content.
@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow4 жыл бұрын
You are correct about the wildflowers in most areas. As for the weeds, they are so prolific most counties are fine having them cut.

I so enjoy your videos. A little bit of calm and beauty in this crazy world. My great grandma always had a Farmers Almanac hung by a string on her Hoosier. I still enjoy reading them. I'm a tea drinker also. Earl Grey is a favorite of mine. I also like Oolong once in awhile. I look forward to your next video.

The tea pot is enamelware, which is basically metal covered in porcelain enamel.

@@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow yes I meant enamelware. You see a ton of ceramic. It's so dear, I love it. I have a lot of miles on my eyes from antique stores I have never come across one of them. Thanks for sharing your interesting eclectic treasures.

Oh and thanks for the cold frame inspiration i have an odd 3 wall thing made of boards on the back of my garage not sure what it was used for.. maybe to store fire wood? I have a few old windows that i need to do something with so i think i will create a cold frame.. I love that green color of yours. My garage is a dark red i think the green would look great with it. Do you know the name of that paint color?
@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow4 жыл бұрын
The paint on the cold frame is from a spray can of Rustoleum, indoor, outdoor. Moss Green

my birthday was on the 20th a few days ago, and my mom purchased a few types of Harney and Sons tea for me as part of my gift because every time we watch, we're curious about your tea! We both absolutely love your channel. Also Attila is a hilarious name. Iove older animals. They're so cute

What a fun video. Great idea on the dried flower arrangements. I collected goldenrod for medical purposes...think I'll gather more for dried arrangements now. Loved the garden room and what a cool seed stand. So glad I found your channel.
