This garden used to be well loved, anyone could tell. Unfortunately, the elderly lady who owns the house has been poorly for a while and unable to do the garden as she's being taken care of in hospital.
I have never met her, but that doesn't matter.
I was asked if I could help out.
Rural garden in the country side, wildlife everywhere, garden in need of a little rescue, someone needing help? of course I said YES! 😁
Who wouldn't.
Thank you so much for watching,
Martin The Garden Guy.

I have subscribed to a few Lawn fixing guys, but I must say I was so impressed by you. With all the hard & difficult work you do there was one thing in particular that stood out for me. The fact that you cut all those branches as you were trimming that tree & then thought about the wildlife that can take shelter from those branches & twigs. That really touched my heart big time. You are actually the only guy that I've watched who actually thinks of the wildlife who need shelter. Thank you for your kindness ❤ YOU are very much appreciated 👏 💖🌠🌻😻

Oh hello, I must have missed this lovely comment, some how. I'm really glad you enjoyed the video, its great how you appreciate the wildlife as well ❤️😊 Its becoming quite a big part of my gardening now. I will be making more gardening videos on this particular aspect, its made me really happy knowing so many other people are thinking about it as well. Thank you very much for the comment, and I apologise about the late reply. All the best Martin.

I stumbled upon your channel and found it interesting to watch you work this yard. How you knew where the concrete areas were and the way you “sliced” out the flower bed borders was very interesting. That was a jungle to me with all the ivies, but you tamed it pretty good. The tools you use are “old ways” tools that I remember my grandpa using. Enjoyed watching you use them. I like how you made the pile for the critters. You stacked it very well for them to be able to use it. We call them wildlife brush piles here in Texas USA and they are very beneficial for many critters. The smaller branches criss crossed and piled up makes for good cover for songbirds. I could hear the ones there. It was very nice to help the elderly woman out. I do hope she is able to return to her home. Enjoyed!

Love this garden ❤ the lady will be so happy when she’s home and sees what you did. I also put big cut-offs from trees or bushes in corners of my garden. One time a gardener who cut our 3 meter high hedges wanted to clean up my wood stack too, he thought it attracted mice and such. Next year he brought an apprentice along, and the first thing he told the lad: “this lady likes a wildish garden, so leave the logs.”

What a lovely garden & great job Martin. I noticed near the end you cut off the seeding flower from the palm tree. We lived in a house for over 20years & planted 2 palms within weeks of moving in. They grew in to beautiful trees 🌴 and on the day we were handing the keys to the new owner my hubby came in & said oh a farmers trailer has gone by & some loose hay blew on to top of the palms. But when we examined it it was the palm flower!!! After 20 years. Thanks again for the video.

We don’t spray pesticides in our garden so we have a lizard “nursery” which in turn helps keep the crickets down, monarch butterflies hangout along with the neighborhood possums, raccoons and hawks. My husband has plumerias of varied colors and scents. It’s not a large garden but it holds a lot of varieties of hibiscus and sago palms, jasmine and irises. Our idiot dog has squirrels to chase too. Relaxing and nurturing which is a very nice break. So Cal is supposed to get a wet winter so we’ll see. Take care - love your videos.

Thank you, yeah, there is always more work that I think 😂 I always find more that needs doing. The apple tree here wasn't really a proper prune. It was because it was growing over into the garden. That's the only reason I cut it hard back.👍

Ooh, pyracantha, also known as firethorn, with good reason. The berries can be made into quite a nice jam, though, if you can stand the smell while it's boiling! Those spiky looking trees with the long thin leaves are cabbage trees, don't bother trying to compost the leaves as they take years to break down. Alternatively to sending them to landfill, they make excellent kindling.

It looks more than a little bit better! If that pole was a bird feeder, it would be nice outside the sitting room window (if there is a place). If you think the greenhouse will be spider city, don't forget to tuck everything so they can't run in and under. Had it, it's yuck . . .

I think that would be a lovely spot, I do the same. Alway put them somewhere I can see them. 😚👍 And you are so, so right about the spiders crawling up legs 🤣 I love all wildlife. But that, to me is a thing of nightmares 🤣 Thankfully, none in this country are poisonous 😅

That was one crazy redo. Some say as different as apples and oranges until they are neglected and overgrown. That apple needs constant attention or you have to do what you did. Sorry you had to go through that. Hope to see you finish this garden. It already will make the owner very happy. Wish I could still work like that. Thanks for sharing with us.

Eric, I wish I could garden like that still, too. Once I could go all day and come back tomorrow for more. Now I feel like I can only pop out for liitle bits, and definitely not do more the next day. Do you still manage to do some? Hello from New Zealand 🇳🇿

Oh hello 👋 From what I can remember, the tree in the middle of the lawn was a cordyline australis, the bed with the grass growing in it was actually a very old rose bed. There was quite a lot of ivy, but beyond that, there wasn't actually a great deal of plants in the garden. Was there one in particular you were thinking of?

@martinthegardenguy

Every single bit of it is composted 👍 Spikey bits and bit with loads of seeds (or generally tough to home compost) get commercially composted. And the rest going into home compost bins. On this job, she had quite a few. 👍 Excellent question 😁 Thanks Martin
