I live in a one room apartment in Sweden. I only have windows on the north side and I´m growing my first tomato plant in my kitchen window. I only use natural light and yesterday I saw that I´m having my first tomato ❤️ I´m super happy about this because most people told me that it was impossible because tomatoes need a lot of sunlight. Great info Laura! I 💚💚💚 🍅. I’ve grown tomatoes for 45+ years, since I was a little girl. I live in East Tennessee and our climate is completely opposite of yours. We have always planted in rows in a big garden. We stake them and tie them up as they grow taller. Usually have 125-150 tomato plants of only a few different varieties. We do a lot of canning in the summer to have great tomatoes for soups, chili’s, spaghetti sauce, or to just open and eat, etc. The last several years, I have planted a few tomatoes in a small area at my house. 🐛🐛🐛 Every single year, I get hornworms at the house. Never ever do I see them in the garden area. I plant marigolds with these to ward off insects the last couple of years. I did get some of the spray you recommended last year after seeing a few on my tomatoes. I really liked it. I plant them at several different areas at the house and those little pests found every one of my plants!!! ☹️🐛 Nothing worse than a hornworm devouring a beautiful plant. That’s one thing I would like you to discuss more for new gardeners. Don’t know why they are at the house and never in the big garden. Any ideas? I also cut the bottom leaves off and plant them deep. I’ve found that the deeper the better! You can lay the plant on its side and the roots establish better and support the plant a little better. I also cut the suckers off as soon as I see them. So healthy for the plant and does allow better air flow! I will be adding some straw around mine at home this year. Thank you for sharing all your wisdom and your love of gardening. Stay Safe & Happy! Blessings. 😇

Two years ago I found a packet of tomato seeds in an old gardening magazine dated 1986, they were in aluminium foil. Well I planted them and they grew much to my dismay, they were called Santorini a small bushy variety and they bore fruit. The fruit was a bit sour don't know if it was the variety or the age of the seed. Anywho I am going to have another crack at growing tomatoes when our season allows. Thanks again for a really informative video Laura. Cheers Tammy.

Watching your videos inspired me to just go for it and start planting. Now that I have more time on my hands, I'm at my local garden shop almost every day. My patio garden is starting to look very nice. I planted trees, shrubs, vines, all sorts of flowers, and succulent arrangements. Thank you for inspiring me. I'm really enjoying the process of planting and watching things grow. Wish me luck.

Love tomatoes! One year my Aunt and I had a fun contest to who would get the first ripe tomato. I planted my plants early, in my area, Louisville Kentucky, they say not to plant the tomatoes before the Kentucky Derby. I planted early because I didn't know, but I kept vigil and covered my plants when temps dropped low. I got the first tomato before July 1. I gave it to my Aunt.

After WW2, here in Europe was hard time after all devastation in human and economic resorces and then in 1946 to 1948 aid started to come from USA, all people here named it Truman Aid, from mushed potatoes and scrambled eggs in powder to vegetable seeds, one of seeds was tamatoes, who know what variety it was but it was open polinator variety foe sure because my late grandmother all her life colected seeds from that tomatoes, we still plant them because my aunt still colect seeds from that tomato, it is great variety with large fruits, flashy with not a lot of seeds, great for slicing for salads but also great for cooking saouces, not only in my family that seeds are still growing, other people do, nobody know variety but everybody call it "americano".
