Frances Tophill and the team celebrate the joy that the gardening year brings throughout the seasons.
Frances is at Wildside Garden in Devon, inspired to make the winter gardens sparkle and do jobs to get them ready for next spring. Nick Bailey visits a garden in Bedfordshire that blends soft grasses with textural trees and crisp topiary to create a space full of winter interest.
Advolly Richmond reveals the fascinating history of greenhouses along with the enormous challenges involved in engineering those early designs. Adam Frost gets stuck into some winter jobs, including chitting potatoes and planting up a container for seasonal interest.
In Northamptonshire, there's a collection of snowdrops with more than 650 varieties, and there's a man from Somerset whose world has been rocked by lithops - also known as living stones.

It’s so funny what “winter” means in the UK. I don’t get any of that until spring. Winter interest for me means conifers, a few boxwoods and pretty bark, and some perennials whose dead stems can stand up to snow. Sometimes, depending on how heavy the snow is, I might also get some grasses that stay upright.

Indeed. English winter I like. Our winter up here is endless and brutal. -27 degrees C and 50 cm snow at the moment.

After being out of the UK for forty years now, I don’t miss the winters as much. Unfortunately, in Florida we only get one season, so I do miss the change. Obviously, I can’t grow most of the UK plants because of the heat here, but I still love watching GW every week. Going back in March to see family, so we’ll get to see spring at least.

I would have loved to have seen more of Keith Wiley's garden. Absolutely fabulous. Is there more video of it and where is he located so I might research him and his pruning techniques? Thank you very much

Why would anyone want a yellow snowdrop? Clean snow is white. Apparently, not everyone has heard the cautionary dog sledder's statement, "Don't eat yellow snow."

Why do you ask for money? You aren’t involved in these shows in any capacity correct? So you want to be paid to upload BBC content? Is that legal?

😂 don't bite the hand that feeds you, when they are not forcing you to pay. Maybe convince GW to go the Taskmaster route, and upload their own shows so they can get those views if you actually care that much, Troy.
