Here in the High Mojave Desert, where the soil is mostly sand, silt and high pH Alkali salts, I found that adding Organics wasn't sufficient. Unless you wanted of course to fight a constant uphill battle. By accident and lots of research I discovered that small amount of activated biochar, Fuller's earth and gypsum were extremely beneficial as well to help retain the nutrients, moisture level and break down and leech out the salts and help neutralize the pH. These added along with Organics and mixed into the top 10 inches of soil to start a bed, really reduce the frequency of how often plants needed to be fed as well as how often soil needed to be amended.

Yeah..Palmdale, Lancaster, Victorville, Dry Lake Beds with the UFO activity. Moved to greener pastures east of the Mississippi River. Soil is much better but, the politics are the same . : (

Take a look at glass fiber produciton for fiber optics. I believe its a continuous gravity drawn /pouring process. As the liquid pours out the strings mass helps draw it thinly. Its draped over a long distance for cooling and on the far end is coiled up. I believe there may be a steel or other metal wire forming process that's similar to this. Super cool seeing the discovery of the cold string formation! I cant help but think about the multivariate experimentation you discussed. Could try different solvent/PLA ratios, PEO molecular mass (thinking it might help relax the gooey, tackiness), etc

I wish you would read your book on audible. It is really nice to listen to books while on the road. It saves time and is a fun way to pass the time.

Good news. Soil Science for Gardeners is being converted to audio as we speak. I expect to see it in a couple of months.
