So lucky to have someone to help you. I tried so hard to make my garden beautiful, and I was almost there when I got sick, and now I have so many weeds. I just want to burn it all and start over. I keep telling myself it took me 4 years to get it right, and now it will take me a year to get it back in shape.

I also had issues with clematis staying too short and so I stopped pruning it way back. It now gets very tall and blooms at the top, right where I wanted it to. It’s on a trellis but behind a low, spreading Japanese maple. Less work and better outcome.

Nice sitting area. I wish we didn’t have deer problems because I would need a taller fence as they would hoo right over that one. I’m trying to figure out a better fence that wouldn’t look so enclosed as a 7’ wire fence. Maybe electric fence at nose height.

I follow her on IG and YT; her garden is beautiiful and her approach to retirement is inspirational. Now, in the spirit of debate, I will say I'm unsure about the greenhouse. I want to admire it- the construction is impeccable- but the regality seems out of place with the environment of a country cottage she's created. Thoughts?

You don't have to be wealthy to do this - my brother built a gorgeous greenhouse out of salvaged vintage windows! he grows and sells fig trees to supplement their income.
