7x a day seems like a LOT of watering. I'm in zone 8a and I just got my sprouts after day 7, with only watering 1x a day for 15-20 minutes. I have been checking the ground by hand to ensure it's moist enough and that seems like it's been enough.

@@GiddingsMcCann - I'm not sure what zone you're in but my above example, though in Texas, was done in a cool time of year: April. If you're in 8a or hotter and doing it now, you'd definitely need more watering than what I did but maybe a good soak at night could be enough. Hot af right now

I have seeded my lawn on June 5th. I found impact sprinklers move the soil and seed when the water lands on the soil. I switched to Orbit Voyager II inground sprinklers (via hose and spike; above ground) with Orbit B-hyve timers. I chose these sprinklers because I can defuse the water pattern into small droplets and still throw over 25 feet with two sprinklers on a hose. Impact sprinklers require lots of pressure to cycle back and forth. These Orbit sprinklers don't need high pressure to work well.

At 40 seconds in, you lost me. Impact sprinklers are not a good option for seeding a bare soil bed. I did a full lawn renovation and before I laid seed on my 100% bare soil, I put out some impact sprinklers and with bare soil, I saw just how horrible they are at evenly covering new seedlings. As yours did, it had a ton of water all around the base, and a lot of water where the stream was landing, but the patch between was evaporating almost as fast as it was being watered because so little water was landing. I had a big donut shaped water mess, and any seed at the impact point on the impact sprinkler would have been washed away. I stress oscillating sprinklers because they apply water more evenly, and the water falls almost straight down versus horizontally, so you don't push seed out by accident. The Melnor brand allows you to adjust how far back and forth you spray, as well as individually setting how narrow or wide each side sprays out. I'm sure there are other good brands that operate similarly, but this is what I had available at my big box store. It worked perfectly for my Zoysia in my front, and my Rye/Kentucky Bluegrass in the back.

Hi, I followed your videos last year and now we are into a new spring I would like to ask how many times a week, and for how long a lawn should be watered. I now work away and am only home at weekends, so, as I have been concerned that I cannot water during weekdays, I have bought an automatic timer, a 50m irrigation hose and 2 sprinklers. I am considering setting the time to water the lawn during the night, and for around 10 minutes for all 7 nights of the week. Do you think this is correct, or do I need to water for less days but longer than 10 minutes?

Hi David when watering it's better to water deeply less often e.g. weekly so the grass develops a better root system that finds water otherwise you will have shallow roots. That being said, in the UK I rarely water the lawn only by exception during periods of no rain and sun

I work all day so i water in the evening every 1 to 2 days. Is this sufficient?

If you can only water in the evenings do it every evening, you need to keep seed moist during the whole process
