I am a turtle lover from Myanmar (Burma). Myanmar has many endemic species of turtles compare to other countries in the world . Myanmar has the habit of eating this narrow headed softshell turtle and they are very rare nowadays . It's really nice to see them doing well in America 👍👍👍 Hope they will have many descendants in the future !

Definitely going to donate to the cause I’ve always loved reptiles and I donate to USARK and would love to help and be a part of the turtle conservancy. I’ve had many different species of turtles over the years and sadly over the years have seen less and less in the wild and honestly believe that what you guys do is vital to the survival of many species. So keep up the great work and I’ll help as much as I can by donating but if there’s anything else I can do to help let me know. I’m only one state over in NY and would definitely come and lend a hand anytime. Well I hope you have a great day 🙋♂️✌️

My mother used to have water hyacinth in her garden ponds. They grew so fast in the summer that we would have to pull a bunch out every day and compost them. This was a pond full of former feeder goldfish bought from a fish store. About 75% of these fish survived longer than a week and they proceeded to acclimate and became a breeding population.

In my opinion, one of the strangest is the Vietnamese/Asian big headed turtle. Biggest head proportional to its body of just about any turtle species, mostly aquatic but a terrible swimmer, great at climbing, head is so big it can’t pull it into the shell at all, and it’s skull bones are so thick they are thicker than it’s shell. It also looks very similar to the American common snapping turtle, and is currently a dream turtle for me. It’s got all the cool factors of a snapping turtle in a much more manageable size, since they don’t get to the absolutely monstrous sizes American Snappers get. I’ve been looking for a captive bred one but sadly they are very rare and most of them are either wild caught, likely poached/smuggled or on the pet black market. Most probably don’t even realize they exist since snappers are so much more immediately impressive, but I found out about these on Clint’s channel and have wanted one since
@GardenStateTortoise2 жыл бұрын
They certainly are cool and strange as well. We kept them for a number of years, very similar to American snappers as you’ve said which is why we didn’t include them in this round. We will definitely have to do something on them in the future, though.
@BBLeviathan-Gaming2 жыл бұрын
@@GardenStateTortoise I look forward to it! Clint mentioned them in passing and I’ve been looking since then, so I’m looking forward to seeing that video! There’s criminally little information on them and I can’t wait to have info directly from someone who’s kept them. Fresh info is best info in the hobby, and making sure you have the ability to give your turtles long and happy lives is important. Especially for Species like these. They’re so obscure that I’m not sure there’s even any regulations on them, besides the basic ones for any endangered species. At least none that I’ve been able to find. Important question, is it still considered black market/illegal/etc. if there’s no mention in regulations or anything specifically mentioning the species? That may be something to cover in future videos if it’s not been covered already. That seems like a loophole ripe for exploitation by shady dealers, and people should be warned by someone who knows what they’re talking about

I found a huge softshell in Florida crossing a hiway . Fortunately it was Sunday so little traffic. I picked it up about 40 or 50 pounds and carried it way down the road to an overgrown swampish area that wold have been where it was headed. It was spring so maybe looking for the ladies. When I put him down as close to the pond I could get he immediately plowed his big body through the grass to get to the water. They drive over them like they were a newspaper in Florida. No picture but I did get a pic of an alligator snapping turtle going through my yard heading for a pond a ways away. He was about 40 lbs. BEcause a road and parking lot was in the way I carried him and he tried to bite me. !
