When I was a teenager my dad was in the RNXS and they had an old Naval MFV assigned to his group. This had an 8 cyl Gardner fitted and I will never forget getting it to start on a cold November day after being stood for months and how nicely it ran afterwards !

You have the one of the best formats for those of us who have a love of Gardners, and so easy to follow. These series on the 6LXB will be a great archive for not only the future, but I wouldn't be surprised if Poly-Techs use these videos as a teaching aid! With the aid of pause and rewind, you have certainly enlightened me on a host of questions I have had on both 6LX's and 6LXB's. I laughed at your mate when it was "look what I found in the sump!" - haha, we have all been there tell him! Very much looking forward to the next video.

I've always had a fascination with these engines. I believe the double decker buses that travel west midlands used to use were all powered by these. It does seem incredible that this thing has probably done a million miles. I can't imagine it was particularly well treated for the first 10 or 20 years of its life. I really don't think anything you found was to be unexpected for an engine that has done that kind of mileage.

Good the way it all works. Would love to see this with an AEC AV 590 outside the bus.

Haven't had an AEC in the workshop for a while, Will certainly do a video series if we have one come in.

@@MPSVintageDiesels Yes please! In the Routemaster it sounded very exciting. Does it sound the same outside the bus, I wonder?

Do you need a special tool to remove the main bearing caps, I saw one advertised some time ago and was thinking of buying it.

Yes you do need a special tool, Although you can get them out on some occasions without the puller. It will save a whole heap of strugling and swearing with the proper tool
