My wife and I just sort of stranded there on Oct. 8 because the German ICE train from Brussels Midi to Cologne...as well as the next one..was cancelled on our way back from G(h)ent to Hamburg a couple of weeks ago, and we wondered (in vain) if there was a way to get home earlier by going to Liège. And we could also help out a couple of American tourists to get out at the correct station because their ticket said "Luik-Guillemins" (the Flemish name, in a mostly bilingual country) while the announcements and the platform signs only said Liège. But at least we managed to see this magnificent railroad station building (OK, we like Antwerpen Centraal even better - possibly the greatest art-deco train station anywhere- , but that's another era and Guillemins is simply the crème de la crème of modern stations - better than e.g. Berlin Central Station and the like optically, although the logistics at Liège are certainly less complicated than was required at Berlin Central.

Europe is a place of diverse languages and customs, which can sometimes be confusing for foreigners. During my travels, I've often received assistance from kind and helpful individuals like you. I appreciate your actions, as they make the journey for strangers much warmer. I completely agree with your sentiments. Antwerp Central Station is indeed beautiful, and it stands out among classical-style train stations. Liège station is also a remarkable architectural gem in contemporary design. I particularly love its aesthetic, as well as the way it plays with light.

One of my faverite architects, structural engineer I should say. His World Trade Center station in NY is breathtaking also.
