This video really shows his progress. He's much better than that now. Even arseanal had 3 men on him. Sagna fouled him 6 times in the derby match just to keep up and he still scored and he's not even spurs' best player.

@ironman6381 Maldini has been a very different player from Bale; a great defender, competitor and reader of the game with a fantastic record of achievement. Bale is more dangerous as an attacking player. To be better than Maldini he would have to become one of the very greatest players ever.

@hunterz2006 You say Bale can win anything single-handedly for England, then he could do the same for Wales. England must wish they'd had either Giggs or Bale on the left, which has been a weakness. If British teams really represent each other, why should a Welsh player play for England, not English players for Wales? In any event, a UK team would have done better in world cups. But the English would take the credit.
