You should read Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein regarding your idea of having people qualify to vote.
@kultureking9177 Жыл бұрын
I do not agree with the voter system you’re suggesting. Many black business owners in South Africa are with the ANC because of the tenders. They vote for ANC to keep that business going. Instead of restricting people, why not just educate the people and allow them to vote according to their conscious. It seems like your intentions for voting should result in what you, personally, feel like is right.

First time hearing Penuel. I appreciate the breadth of thought and exploration of ideas from both speakers. Good to know there are still public figures who have a vested interest in actually finding ways to make things collectively better. Whether you agree or not, its a good reminder that we can all benefit from a little introspection and consideration, of ourselves and others.

IF YOU'RE NOT POLITICALLY LITERATE... PLEASE DO NOT VOTE!!!! - What is your ward number? - Who is your ward councillor? - Who is your mayor? - Who is your premier? - Name most of the Ministers - Who is the President & Deputy President? - What is a green paper & a white paper? - Where is your local Magistrate? - Where is the High Court? Supreme Court of Appeal? Constitutional Court? - What is the Johannesburg Stock Exchange? - What are the major institutions that run this country, from a business perspective? SOEs & private businesses. - Who runs the biggest media platforms? - What is South Africa's relationship with the biggest economies on earth? - What is South Africa's relationship with the rest of Africa, Europe, the Americas & Asia? - The difference between Capitalism, Socialism & Communism? - Democracy vs a Monarch vs a Religious State vs Other Models? - What is British Colonialism & Apartheid? ...etc. If you cannot answer most of these questions... you should not be allowed to vote. YOU ARE A DANGEROUS LIABILITY AND YOU'RE DESTROYING OUR COUNTRY.

That is an absolutely ridiculous idea, u do not solve a problem by creating another one. Everyone has the right to vote. It is up to the government, pressure groups and even content creators like yourself to make people understand what voting is all about. What is being taught in schools, shouldn't politics and voting be a compulsory subject? Podcasters create hours of content talking about nonsense but then complain about the so called uneducated masses. Penuel be part of the solution, don't come with plans to create bigger problems.
@Mushlanga Жыл бұрын

This is borderline dictatorship, especially the suggestion that people shouldn’t vote if they don’t see the world according to you & to bash uneducated people is the worst kind of criticism given the effects of apartheid that still coexist with us. I do agree however that the first 6 points should be basic knowledge, but that doesn’t take away the basic freedoms that were fought for which is the right to vote. You have access to resource in a form of your podcast, I’m pretty sure you can get sponsorships to go on a national tour to educate people about such. Use your platform to educate the masses about these points not to only grandstand stating the obvious. Anyone and everyone can bash government to gain popularity and that is cheap, hence in this interview Gareth showed his maturity over you. You still need some maturing to do my brother, I’m one of those will be patiently observing your growth.

Such a great conversation! Many things were spoken about but I'll comment a topic that I'm really passionate about: Cape Independence... Firstly for those that think its not financially viable i have this to say about it: how much expats are there in first first countries that would love to return back to SA? If the Cape becomes independent so much of them will return bringing with them in demand skills and basically direct foreign investment. Theres so much people in SA that would like to see what decolonization looks like when truly expressing the need to make Southern African according to the people living there such as an independent cape or even and independent KZN not living in boarders that England draw up for us. As i said above truly a great conversation 😊

Gareth made Penuel super uncomfortable with that Israel/Palestine conversation. Gareth is obviously a veteran broadcaster, yes Penuel’s platform is larger, but Gareth knows the dark arts of tough conversations. He ended up pushing Pen off a Cliff to remind him who’s the grootman in this game. Still think both you guys have brilliant and yet flawed views, especially when it comes to voting.

See, when it comes to voting age, it makes no sense for 18 year olds to vote. Today I'm 17 I'm a baby , have no clue whatsoever about government, but tomorrow I'm 18 I'm a grown up and suddenly I'm matured to vote? Lol, no, please make it make sense. There's no way. I always say to myself that the iec needs to reevaluate the voting system. Also, with my experience, a lot of people don't know how the government works. And these people are voters. How on earth do u give people such power when they don't understand how to use it and what comes with it? Makes no sense. IEC really needs to reevaluate the requirements of voting.
