For those who don't understand this playstyle: This is extremely difficult to do. The amount of patience, coordination, timing, practice and beating your head against the wall to make sure every note and progression is on point is time consuming. Props to you for this video and arrangement. You've earned my sub.
@Harold0463 жыл бұрын
The playstyle itself isn't extremely difficult. It's pretty simple stuff actually, and if you get a good teacher, it's the first thing you'll learn after the basics. At least that's how it went for me. This arrangement seems pretty accessible too: seems pretty easy to coordinate, at the very least. And I'm not criticizing, quite the contrary: this guy sells tabs and scores for people who are obviously going to be less skilled than he is (like me, for instance), and he managed to make an arrangement for Billie Jean that's both very accurate and reasonably simple. That requires skills far beyond simply playing guitar.
@StefanGBucher3 жыл бұрын
@@Harold046 "Pretty simple stuff." Oh boy... yeah... 🙄Maybe once you've done it for years and years. I've been learning just basic fingerstyle with a teacher for the past two years (after a few years of strumming), and dude... it is HARD to get your fingers to cooperate. Even Tommy Emmanuel and Mark Knopfler say, "It's not easy to pick up. Gotta be patient!" This right here is decidedly not simple stuff. Except for you, of course. 🙄
@Harold0463 жыл бұрын
@@StefanGBucher Not just me. My whole country. We don't even have a word for "fingerstyle" in my language : we just call it "playing the guitar" :D ! Imagine how puzzled I was when I realized that english-speaking-people called that "a technique", and even had a name for it ! Where I'm from, it's not a technique, and kids at music school learn it first, right after the basics, and years before they learn strumming (which is pretty much a single-lesson thing). I'm not saying that it's easy either. Takes a few years to pick up. My point is that this level of difficulty is pretty much what you should expect when picking up any instrument. If you don't do fingerstyle, then you're as much of a guitarist as someone who can only play the piano with one hand is a pianist.

You can either start by taking guitar lessons specifically for "fingerstyle" guitar... or... learn everything you can in general over a 40 year span.... by the time you've been avidly playing and accomplished for 40 years, you will just sit back and appreciate this. If you want to play along, it's not even issue. There are many levels of musicianship. Remember how both Eddie Van Halen and Elton John could play ANYTHING they heard and play it right back note-for-note first time. True story. Many of us can do this. If you are born and raised in an extremely musical family, and even more so with some type of percussion, this is your gig right here. It pays pretty decently... the only thing... you have to practice daily... all those years and even after you learn this stuff. Like martial arts or any other type of art, it's a LIFETIME venture, but don't ever look or listen to this as something that is impossible. It should be fun and easy... once you have reached that 'advanced' or 'accomplished' level. Check out some violinists sometime. It's so easy to see and hear who the truly great musicians are... just like anything else, those with special skills always stand out....
