Kalonian hydra is very scary and the fact that nobody had any removal that entire game, except that one beast within, meant that the deck with the best goldfishing was gonna win.

There's a new Aura that was released in Theros Beyond Death called Hydra's Growth. It cost 3 mana but it doubles the counters on your creature each upkeep. I can imagine that would get pretty outta control in this deck.

When I played 60 card multiplayer I used to have a Gruul Hydra+Wall deck that could just get DUMB. Turn 1 mountain into Mass Hysteria. Turn 2 forest into Overgrown Battlement. Turn 3, land, another Battlement or Axebane Guardian into another wall and a Doubling Season or Primal Rage. Turn 4, either a Genesis Wave or a HUGE hasty trampling double counter hydra, like Savageborn which has Double Strike, or Primordial Hydra, or Hydra Broodmaster. Good times.

You got hit by basically no removal, and no board wipe that happens if your Afro

With boardwipes, it would be a completly different game. People underestimate the importance of mass removal in EDH.

It's actually kinda funny but several months ago i made a Gargos hydra tribal deck as well and unfortunately it really underperformed because i tried to focus it more so around the fight mechanic instead of your traditional ramp.org green deck. I ended up taking it apart though and I'm not quite sure if I'd ever put it back together/make it better.

Yeah I think a lot of protection is key. After these 2 games I realized how much the deck doesn't really function when Gargos is not in play.

@@CommanderReplay yeah i think so too. One card suggestion i think you might wanna add in is Doubling Cube since it works wonders with Zendikar Resurgent and since hydras in general want a ton of mana dumped into them.

According to my spreadsheet that was hasn't been updated since last July. Prior to that I had played mono green 11 times. So not very often. I tend to shy away from it now because it really gets out of control fast.

Honestly, this is why I hate mono-green, it does everything every other colour does almost just as good. Why so much card draw? You already have ramp.
