Hells' Field is one of the best pieces of music ever composed, IMO. As soon as you enter the Ghoul Realm, you see...a barren wasteland. Trees with no leaves. Red rivers of blood. Ghouls that want to kill you every step you take. Hence the name, Hell's Field. Yet the piece is...strangely calm, and soothing. Maybe to us Hell's Field looks like a barren wasteland, but for Firebrand, our protagonist, it is what he calls home. And in the end, that's all that matters. It is such a massive juxtaposition to show a barren wasteland, called Hells' Field, yet give it such a soothing, nearly angelic theme. The Japanese composers literally poured their hearts and souls into those tiny cartridges. Massive respect to those mad-lads.

A long time ago, the Ghoul Realm barely escaped great peril. A large army of Destroyers came from a neighboring universe. The creatures of the Ghoul Realm were no match for the powerful Destroyers. Just when everyone had given up hope, a great fire swept over the Realm, wiping out the Destroyers' army. Several hundred years have passed and the Realm is threatened once again...

Your interpretation is Master Class, it gives me chills, so carefully done! Thank you! The whole soundtrack is one of my most beloved - after FFVI maybe... ;-) So many memories and I love playing it even today. Every year it occurs to me: It's Gargoyle's Quest Time! Now that I finally know the composers I play that game "who composed which music?" and "Hell's Field" (and "Darkoan's Palace") is SO Yoko Shimomura!! While Stage 1 cries for familiarity to Ghosts'n Goblins! Your instrumentation, your feeling for the melodies and atmosphere is awesome! The best I found on the Internet. (I even made an own MIDI Piano Arrangement for VGMusic 23 years ago...quite stiff, not very good) Couldn't you... maybe... all 17 Tracks? And then we'll release it on vinyl! One side Original, one side your arrangements. Maybe a Double-10-inch? Just a wish... ^_^)
@Soundole Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words! I'd be curious to hear which tracks Shimomura wrote specifically - I think the majority of her contributions are alongside a bunch of other composers, so exact authorship is always a little blurry! I've been surprised at how many people have such a strong nostalgic attachment to this game, so I definitely wouldn't be against exploring more of the soundtrack in the future! :)

Soundole VGM Covers Yes! But at least so far it feels fair. Brutal, unforgiving, but still fair, if you die you know YOU failed. At least compared to the NES Ghosts n' Goblins. I saw the Angry Video Game Nerd's review of it. . . o-o" Dark Souls went by a different name in the 80's, haha! [Which I've never actually played XP]

Soundole VGM Covers Exactly! As soon as you feel the game's cheating you, it's not fun anymore. [I'd even, from what I've seen, go so far as to say the original Ghosts N' Goblins crosses that line].
