Thanks for sharing. The Guatemalan Mayan territory of Belice. Long live the Garifunas long live Guatemala 🇬🇹. Is so beautiful and rich the Kingdom of Guatemala established since 1609 and that extends from El Soconusco (today Chiapas) to part of Panama. Guatemala is 12th producer of silver in the world and 20th producer of gold besides having massive reserves of nickel, jade and so many other natural resources too bad for almost a century big foreign multinational anglosaxon corporations have been taking almost everything for more than a century. Long live Juan Santamaria the heroe of Costa Rica who died in battle against the anglo pirates . The Malvinas belong to Argentina 🇦🇷, The Esequibo belongs to Venezuela 🇻🇪 and Belice belongs to Guatemala 🇬🇹. Guatemala exploited and sabotaged for almost a century but never gives up!!. Garifuna language is NOT African but Caribbean Native American, of Arawakan language family. The people came to Central America forcefully moved in 1795 by British occupiers from the St. Vincent Island, 4th North of Venezuela. The language is very close to Lokono of Venezuela and original languages of the Caribbean Islands, now extinct. Genetically Garinagu are 25% American Indian and 75% West African; the St. Vincent Indians welcomed African people who came ashore from ships destroyed by the powerful currents near the Island. They were never slaves! Their music is a continuum from purely Indian to African. The punta dance comes from a funeral ritual of their Ancestor Religion. Note that feet never leave the ground. Dugu is the major rite for a dead family member announced in some person's dream. The family comes celebrate from all over the World. I was incredibly lucky to observe FOUR (separate) Dugu celebrations in the Summer of 2005 in Trujillo, Honduras. I witnessed each of the families building the ceremonial woden houses exclusively for the rites that last several days and nights.❤ So tell me were does the name CARIBbean come from? How about: GARIfuna sg. or GARInagu pl.?
