Actually it's in Ruination, level 19. In Road To Ruin, it's just a regular crate. I guess they tried to fool the gamer in the finished game by making the beginnings of the stages similar, so that gamer would get killed by nitro if rushing through the crates.

Naughty Dog didn't sell the rights.. They were signed to Universal when they created it... They just left Universal, and in the process, left crash with them...
