It's a good idea to always pull another jet line (pull string) through each time so you always have one if you need it. Also, I use a small plastic bag on the connector end before using tape, it keeps the connector free of residue.

There's one thing I didn't see - two old bracket holes filled in before installing the new transducer bracket. Any hole or damage to a boat hull can be filled in to be just as strong as the hull by using an epoxy putty product "marine-tek". it's sold at most marine stores. West Marine sells it under their own brand "West-Tek". It allowed me to completely refit my Mako 211. With a little paint, you'll never know the old holes were there. Ream out the hole to get down to new material, get an epoxy syringe - also from West Marine, mix the putty and load the syringe - new hull, no water intrusion.

How far beneath the water isn’t as important as to where on the hill of the boat it’s mounted. With that, you should try to mount it as low as possible on the hull, while also avoiding anything that’s going to crest water turbulence when underway

Just purchased this unit I was wondering what we’re the dimensions of the plate you had made
@anthonyblack79904 жыл бұрын
I believe it was a 12” x 8” but don’t remember for certain. The size of the board will really depend on how big of an existing hole you may be trying to cover, as well as how much of a frame you’re wanting to create around the unit. A good piece of advice to test things out is to cut cardboard and insert the device on it to see how you like the look, and get sufficient measurements.

Oh and it is also 1/2” thick...

Can you provide the actual Starboard dimensions that you had pre-cut for the trim piece? Is that a 1/2" thickness?
@anthonyblack79904 жыл бұрын
I want to say it was 8.5” x 12” but not certain. And yes it was half inch. The dimensions will be pretty specific to you if you are trying to re-surface a pre-existing hole. I wanted to cover my old cutout, but not create too big of a black frame to take away from the aesthetics of the garmin itself.

Transducer on a paddle boat...just make it flush with bottom of boat? Or above a hair on the bottom of boat
@anthonyblack79902 жыл бұрын
I would make it just about flush with the bottom of the hull. The only reason you lower it on a motorized boat is to get the transducer below the turbulent water coming off the boat.

Then again, I was a quartermaster in the U.S. Navy. Dead reckoning, a compass, and a sextant are like peanut butter and jelly with chocolate milk. Yes, I'm am a real navigator. My thing is, people rely on electronics way too much. Keep in mind we're all one solar storm away from fried electronics - world wide - and that includes satellites. It's not a question of if that will happen - but when.
