I purchased a Garmin Nuvi 2557LM device for a road trip earlier this year, and enjoy using this device. I like the features that it has, such as the voice, and the 5" display. The only difference with your device is mine doesn't have lifetime traffic, nor a traffic receiver, but I don't really need that. It's better than using my smartphone because this Garmin Nuvi device has active lane guidance, and I can also use it in Mexico as well, since I have no cellular data there. This device deserves a 5 of five stars!

Thanks for the review. I have been thinking of trying one of these but have recently tried Waze and while I like it a lot, the only thing I wish it had is a Direction Of Travel setting to show what direction you are driving in more clearly and easily. Especially NE, NW, SE, and SW. Other than that I like it a lot but since it's missing that, I may look into one of these.

Moonbase0ne -- PlanetCybertron.com These are pretty nice. I wish it was voice activated but not this model. It is much easier to just talk to it when driving for safety reasons rather than touching the screen and taking your eyes off the road. Make sure to look for the voice model also. I just purchased a Garmin 2797 Nuvi which is similar to this model. The problem I have had with past Garmins (and with a Tom Tom before) is that the antenna connection to the unit itself seems very fragile. I take care in unplugging it nad taking it down from the dash but in about 2 years the connection gets lose and then the antenna (and of course eventually the power) doesn't work. Has anyone experienced something like this? The connection seems pretty fragile. Perfectly happy to accept that its me but it seems to me there must be a way of security that connection so that it isn't compromised after repeated attachment and unattachment.......BB

Just bought this today. Brought it inside my house (not in the car obviously) so I could "play" with it before needing it. I haven't been able to get any screen to show except the Garmin cover page. Have you been able to use it without having it hooked to your car? Could it be that it isn't fully charged? Do you have any other suggestions if my problem is neither of these? Ok, so I admit I am technology challenged and that is my problem, but is there a problem with my Garmin?

Diane Satterfield Try to connect it to your PC first and complete the updates and or registration. See if that helps. Read the instructions they may have changed. If that does not work I would return it for another one since it is still under warranty.

Lol. Yes it does bug me! I was thinking the exact same thing, I'm really shocked it's spelled wrong, but yes it is the original mount. It really does work well. It's accurate and easy to use. They really need to fix the spelling mistake! I downloaded all the up to date firmware and updated the map I have selected, but it still spells that wrong. Not a bad GPS at though! Works good!

So did you try out any of the voice-command models? I want to upgrade (my Garmin is 3 years old and doesn't do voice commands) and was hoping this was a voice-activated one. I'll have to go to Best Buy and see if they have some I can try out.

Yea that's what I want the voice command one. I would get that one over this one for sure. I didn't try any they didn't have one, I would have bought the voice one it's gotta be much easier to use than when trying to type in a location if your already driving/moving.

I ended up getting a new Garmin. Went with the bigger screen and voice-command model (otherwise very similar, nearly identical to yours). Voice command, though cool at times, sometimes gets frustrating especially when trying to get it to recognize the name of an actual store/restaurant. Seems to handle street addresses okay (so far...haven't used that a lot) but the other day it took four or five tries before it recognized me saying "Buffalo Wild Wings". And I know how to enunciate, thanks in part to a broadcasting class in college and nearly-successful stint as a DJ on my college radio station. I had to turn off the radio, increase the volume of my voice, and focus on pronouncing every syllable perfectly before it finally realized I was hungry for hot wings. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I got it (way better than previous versions, especially the way it gives specific lane instructions when you're nearing an exit using better animations) but I was hoping it would recognize my voice as well as my phone did. Thanks again for your review. It made the purchase an easier decision.
