The fashionable and very popular ski resort in Germany Garmisch-Partenkirchen is located at the foot of the highest mountain in Germany Zugspitze (2962 m). The Zugspitze is also the largest alpine nature reserve. This is a unique ski resort with many slopes that will satisfy the requirements of both professionals and beginners.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen unites 2 settlements, respectively Garmisch and Partenkirchen. In 1936, the Olympic Games were held here, for the sake of which, under strong pressure from the authorities, 2 villages were united. Garmisch is a trendy resort with a large number of shops that are not inferior to those located in larger cities.
The tourist center is located on the territory of Garmisch: in addition to the shopping street, it is also a spa park where concerts are regularly held, and a casino. The historic quarter of Garmisch is located to the side, to the north, behind the river Loisach, around Fruehlingstrasse. Here is the Old Church (13th century). The historical part of Partenkirchen was badly damaged in a fire in the 19th century. Only a few houses have survived: Alte Haus (Ludwigstrasse 8), Gasthof Fraundorfer and some others.
