Oh, this one is actually reasonable response. Gems do not("did" at current moment) care about human culture and common sense, and they treat Steven as a Gem more often than a human, and from the looks of it, they never had bothered learning from Greg about humans too. So, it was far easier to just tell this human woman about Rose being dead, but they had not thought about it, didn't quite feel the need to touch those old scars for a [mere] human. And this stance of their also explains why Steven often acts as an odd-ball, because he grew up with aliens, soaking in alien/human mash of cultures.

Justin Coal Totoro is correct. Most people on this video don't seem to understand how fusion works despite it being obvious in the show. A fusion is everything that is synchronized between two or more Gems. The more stable their fusion, the more harmoniously bonded their attributes are. The resultant fusion is the sum of the parts that make it up in totality, and then MORE, because a fusion is its own separate person. Garnet is not Ruby and Sapphire. Garnet is Garnet, who is made up of Ruby and Sapphire.

I just don't see why Connie didn't explain, "Steven has a Dad and 3 Guardians that raise him." There are all kinds of families, and I would have rather seen an episode about Steven realizing there are different kinds of families; grandparents who raise grandchildren, single mothers, single fathers, adopted children, siblings who raise younger siblings. His family just happens to be 3 Aliens and a Dad. That doesn't make his any less valuable than Connie's I just don't think there are enough variations of families in media, Steven Universe had the chance and missed it.

There are those who would not look favorable on a single dad who lives in his van looking after a child while also entrusting a large part of his care to guardians. In my opinion it can work well, but I have been told that many of my thoughts and opinions are something of an oddity. Thus why understanding this is difficult for me. Based on the fact that Connie felt she needed to deceive them for so long on this and other issues, it would appear that she felt there was strong reason to suspect that they wouldn't approve of his family situation no matter how it was explained. At this time her parents are not the most open-minded individuals although that does get better later on.
