Car is full bolt on, powermax stage 1 turbocharger tuned on e30 by Alan at Edge Autosport. First pull 1st through 4th gear, second run is 2nd through 4th. The BFGoodrich tires on the car grip very well, just for reference. It would probably spin in 3rd with junk tires.
Car would need some slicks to even think about actually launching it.

You should really consider the gtX 2860. I installed one after the powermax (look at my other videos) and drivability was basically unchanged except for more top end power. Still had all the punch you'd ever want on command. I just ran stock fuel, made 340whp on 93 and 370 on e30. But that turbo maxed out can make 400 with aux fuel on an ethanol blend. You don't have to buy a new car, just change out the turbo! You'll be able to sell the 3071 and recoup some money from that.

This setup was making 290whp on 93. I did normally run it on e30 though, where it made 320. I don't recommend race gas, just do ethanol mixes. Do 2 port aux fuel and run e30 or e40 (consult your tuner for his recommendation) and you'll get into the 400s no sweat. E mixes are way less knock prone than their gasoline counterparts, even at the same octane rating.

@@Mekel01 sorry I typoed and had to edit. GTX*. The Garrett intercooler is fantastic. I'm running a CPE but they're both equally good units. You will not gain power with an IC on the stock tune, but you will maintain 250hp in every gear, where with the stock intercooler, your power nosedives the entire time you're doing a pull and going through the gears. The stock tune is torque targeted and doesn't allow more than that 250. Either way it's an absolute necessity even if it's the only mod you do to the car. But as far as turbo choice, the GTX2860 is fantastic, I'd do it again given the opportunity. Jump on the ST forums and search for and pick up a Junits elbow for that turbo setup and get rid of the included exhaust elbow. I made my own bypass valve setup personally. @@GTkyle Dude. Awesome, thanks for the quick response. constant power is a huge quality of life thing. But, I'm extremely poorly educated on tuning. @GTkyle
@GTkyle Жыл бұрын
@@Mekel01 Nope, you don't need the exhale kit if the intercooler has a flange or if you buy the 3p pipe. The CPE kit is actually the cold side pipe and it's WAY too tight in that area for a larger pipe let alone a BOV. Lots of fitment issues and rubbing with those setups. Instead, the 3p pipe is the hot pipe and there's tons of room for a BOV there. The only intercooler I know of that has a flange is the levels intercooler. The issue with levels is you may order it and never see the product. He was good in the beginning but I've heard several horror stories on how people paid for a product in more recent times and never received it and haven't been able to get a hold of him. I recommend the Garrett intercooler you planned on buying and the 3p hot side pipe with the BOV flange. If you insist on upgrading the cold side pipe, get the mishimoto cold side pipe because it's completely silicone and is flexible and won't rub.

@@koolaidwaterfountainsforth4236 that's exactly where I was, my tuner tapered it down to 17 or 18 if memory serves. @Gtkyle I figured as much. I could, but definitely wouldn't be at it's full potential. Have the optional 19's and a good set of all seasons currently. I wouldn't be able to mat it til into second gear. It still spins to about 40mph in second, then when it grabs 3rd it'll throw out a little baby tire bark. Fusion definitely squats hard and unloads the front pretty decent. Have a strut tower brace coming in very soon to eliminate the tower flex to help with some of the tire hop. Mines a fwd, 3500 pound example of a fusion. Definitely not the fattest example of one. Also, think a turbo blanket is worth it? The safety is all going to be in the tuner's hands really. I chose Edge Autosport because Alan tunes with that philosophy. I'm not concerned about your car having 95k, as long as all your maintenance is up to date and the car has been well taken care of, mileage isn't much of a concern. Speaking of, Make sure you do an oil change, coolant, and spark plugs when you put the turbo on. Don't reuse the old stuff with a brand new turbo. As far as supporting mods, you already have them. The only thing I recommend is upgrading the bypass valve from the plastic unit that the turbo comes with. The powermax requires you to purchase one from a focus RS. Your ST one will not work.

@GTkyle
@GTkyle 2 жыл бұрын
No, because these turbos spool insanely fast just like the stock unit. So driving down the road normally you'll be getting into boost at least a little bit. Every time you're getting into boost like this you're moving a larger volume of air than the ECU is programmed to compensate for in the fuel tables. You'll run lean, bad things can happen. Get the tune purchased and the base map loaded before you take the car apart and install the turbo.

I’d like to add when you start modding any car you want to run premium. It’s a lot safer for the vehicle due to its stability and resistance to knock and in turn will get a little bit more power out of your parts compared to regular
@Calitaro

I appreciate your replies. So far, the only mods I've done are 19" rims, the Damond Motorsport OCC, K&N filter, and the Sync 3 upgrade. I haven't been running premium since I bought the car in February, since both the fuel door and ST manual supplement state running 87 is 'OK', albeit with slightly less power (assuming timing is pulled to compensate). I would definitely switch to premium if I made any major changes to the powertrain, but I don't think the mods already done necessitate that yet.
@GTkyle
@GTkyle 2 жыл бұрын
@@Calitaro yeah it pulls timing, loses 12hp peak and dulls out the power curve due to OAR changes. MPG suffers as well. It just isn't a good idea to run anything other than premium on any turbocharged engine. They make it able to run on 87 only to prevent engine failures and warranty claims. Regardless of your future mod path, the two major changes you need to make are installing an aftermarket intercooler, and running premium fuel. Even on the stock tune.

I was one of the very first people with this turbo. I've been tuned on stock wastegate and the turbosmart wastegate. Its not worth the money. The issue is, you HAVE to taper boost down above 5000 rpm, or else you start getting a lot of negative ignition corrections (indicating the turbo hotside is creating a ton of restriction and heat back into the cylinders). It carries 22 psi until 5000 then we tapered it down to 16psi on the 93 tune and 18psi on e30 tune. Buy the ford racing or mountune RS bypass valve (dont use a blow off valve), and dont buy the turbosmart wastegate actuator. @@Sonicaceman so, the design of the stock bypass valve vents directly into the inlet of the compressor wheel. This aids in mainting boost between gear shifts. When you blast all that air into the atmosphere, you are giving up a helpful piece of engineering. This may be noticeable with the powermax because of the large sizing difference between the compressor wheel and the turbine wheel. Besides, this turbo is very loud anyway. @GTkyle

@@Sonicaceman yes they are, but on the stock turbo it probably isnt very noticeable. The powermax has a boost dip on the initial tip-in at 3000rpm due to the shaft speed dropping too much when the gate opens (as i said, likely due to the large wheel sizing difference between turbine and compressor) and im afraid this issue would pop up and be noticeable with the use of a BOV. When you're talking about a kit like the exhale, that would be used in conjunction with a big turbo, which spools slowly in comparison to the powermax and loses shaft speed on shifts anyway. You dont have a choice with a big turbo, they dont have the provision in the compressor housing for a bypass valve like the PM does. But the more I look at the investment in tearing the turbo out, I'm better off buying the XDi HPFP and BNR3071 and shooting for a 450/450'ish number where I know Ill be happier with the top end power while still maintaining a decently quick spool turbo. My only issue is then you're also looking at charge pipes, clutch, etc so the costs go up quite a bit. I had hopes for this when it came out, but if i couldnt hit 350-360whp i dont think id even be interested. Im okay with going e30, i only use that for over 2 years now (JST), and im used to filling up as plenty of stations are available within miles of me.

If you see my newer videos, I'm running big turbo now. I had to give the powermax a shot. I'd probably still have it on the car if ethanol was more widely available. Vdyno showed 321hp/360 tq on e30

How hard was the install for this turbo? / any complications you had?

It was simple. Direct swap for the factory turbo, zero additional fabrication or customizing. Just buy new gaskets and fluids and slap the turbo on. 3 things youll probably have issues with are A) removing the wipers (windshield cowl needs to be removed B) removinf downpipe vband clamp (the bolt usually breaks, buy a new one from ford ahead of time, and C) the torx bolts that hold the heat shield onto the turbo are kind of a pain to get broke loose after time and heat cycles. Also make sure you have all necessary gaskets ahead of time, the turbo doesnt come with any.

@@GTkyle awesome thanks for the info! What type of fluids should I replace? Oil, coolant? Etc.. I plan on buying the turbo after this upcoming winter. Gotta start the shopping list!

@@Random-gl3kw Mahle has a gasket kit part number GS3375 that covers all the gaskets, had to look that up. As far as fluids, just oil and coolant. And make sure to prime the engine with the spark plugs out prior to starting it up. Perform clear flood procedure (gas pedal to the floor the entire time while cranking) to disable the injectors and pump oil to your new turbo before trying to start the engine. Also speaking of, youll need 1 step colder spark plugs and gap them to .026"
