Iffy, A lot of foil we have to deal with is shallow. As such, another fun comparison would be to place foil on top of a high conductor coin and see how much each detector lowers the ID of the coin. That would be really helpful for all of us high conductor cherry pickers hunting in trashy park like sites.

The notching on the Vortex reminds me of my old Whites MX5 but it at least did half segments for each whole segment, and it had a sticker with VDI range and that was 10+ years ago. That machine was a nickel magnet too. Iffy I would like to see how the Legend performs on this test. I may have to give it a shot at home and see if it does any better than the triple score.

Both great. I like the Elite better but the TS has more features and carbon fiber shaft. If you want more single freq options the TS has more to offer. The Elite only offers 15khz in single. I like the Elite mainely for the tones which is just a personal choice. Performance is neck and neck.

All depends on soil conditions. Mine is not the greatest and I can get 7-8” on a US dime, maybe a bit more.

I know the newer detectors are much better, but still wonder what id miss out on in your testing with compadre or comparable old machine, may help me understand what all the tech is trying to say lol. The magic sauce of Iron Bias and Bottle Cap reject is in multi frequency. It’s not offered in single frequency machines. It’s a great starter machine but for the iron features you mention you will need an SMF like its big brothers the Elite/Nox/Manticore.

I've seen some guy using the pinpointer on the Manticore within certain settings that shows red in the numbers and he's had great success with distinguishing trash from good targets that way! Every guy I've spoken to says the dius2 "That they have found so much more good things since buying this machine"?

Right now TN its a dig it all machine. Had it out again yesterday and found a nice colonial heel plate and coat button but it is a struggle compared to other machines.

When in doubt, dig it out. If you want to find gold, you're always going to dig pull tabs and bits of foil. Trying to notch out all aluminum will guarantee that you'll miss gold. Metal detecting is not for lazy people. It's called paying your dues...
