Nah that'd be cruel to Harry. But what it should be is that he is actually a Lieutenant or even a Lt.Commander but because the Lower Decks crew all know about his adventures on Voyager they still all automatically refer to him as Ensign Kim. Possibly he's even a bit sensitive about it, until Mariner points out that she probably spent just as much if not more time as an Ensign than he has and she loved being an Ensign.

I'm all for Lower Decks, it's a great comedy that brings a levity to the series without betraying the series spirit. It's great at giving good pokes at the series but not being so cynical that it feels like it doesn't want to be at the party, it's just very good at roasting it's world but still loving every adventure and reference it brings to the table, and every part of the universe it can involve itself in is respected and valued. This show needs to be brought back!

Lower Decks is a show that refuses to pretend that there's not some _really_ goofy stuff in Star Trek, but also refuses to pretend that we don't just mostly love that stuff anyway, because it's still Star Trek.

Garrett created the perfect backstory for Harry being on LD, too. Supposedly he wasn't promoted after returning to the AQ, so he resigned from Starfleet in disgust and set up a restaurant by Starfleet Academy called Admiral Kim's Bar and Grill. Cadets, Ensigns, and other lower deckers got a permanent discount.
