Got into gold panning a few years ago as a result of fly fishing and realizing the sands under my feet were littered with fine gold, which led to carrying the same two pans in my backpack. The activity is addicting ... I now go out and collect 5 gallon buckets to bring home and sluice in the backyard. Enjoyable but back breaking work and patience is key. See a lot of panners going way too fast with the swirling .. your instruction is the best I have ever seen.

Sir, I have seen you many times on the various gold mining shows, and you have always been a class act. In all those shows, no one has ever really explained or broken down the concept of panning and how to do it. Well done, thank you. You have the heart of a teacher.

This is the very best instructional video on the subject of gold panning I have ever watched. I had the good fortune to learn panning from a man who had mined in Colorado in the early 1900s (he was 93 at the time) and the guys who made this video did as well as he did.

Thank you for such a great video! And the message about getting kids outside was perfect. My kids loved being outside doing stuff. I think a big part of the reason was I tried to include them in everything I did starting when they were just toddlers. To this day my adult children and my grandchildren love being outdoors. Panning, camping, fishing, hunting or just a day at the beach. And being outdoors cost way less than paying for video games and consoles lol.

hi. I bought a Garrett panning kit in Hope, BC today and me and a friend went up to Yale and Emory Creek and tried our hand at panning. I used exactly the methods described here, and am excited to say that I found a few flakes of gold. I will carry this kit with me in my trucking travels and see what I can find. I also carry an Eagle Claw rod and reel kit, so I'm set. Cheers. :)

Thanks man, i liked the video and how you mentioned the lack of children outdoors now at the end. Even in the city, play parks are empty or used for other reasons children should not know about. Sad times for the future and over weight unable to survive for more than a day or two children and even adults now. When i grew up the family ate together at the same time and with only one meal cooked for the whole family. The one phone was attached to the wall and you went out to your normal hangouts to find your friends. If you found no one you right away at least you had a walk or a bike ride to stay in normal shape. I love how the B.M.O. scale "norm" has moved to the fatter side to not hurt their feelings or something since i was a child. Sure there might of been a overweight person or two in school but now look at it and we are looking at twigs that can never get bigger or one or two healthy bodies. the rest look like they will need air and stop/sit timeout if they ran for a half of a minute. What got me amazed lately was the fact some high schools have child daycare rooms so the new single mommies can be in school. Children raising children? what next? Instructions how to eat with a fork , knife and spoon instead of your fingers only? Sorry if i got a little upity about the youth of today. It hurts to see it. Best of skill and luck with your gold digging. Even that expression has changer for the worse these days !

Very educational. Very detail oriented. Perfect for me. I have never tried anything like this before. I can see where these instructional videos will build confidence. It’s like your guardian angel is on your shoulder watching you. I LIKE IT VERY MUCH. Can I come up for some private lessons to make sure I’m not throwing away gold. I see where there are other prospectors who do their rinsing over another pan or wash bucket so if they think they have worked it a little too vigorously, they can do that material again. Again, I can see where you could get a lot more comfortable with your technique. I would just be worried I was being a little too aggressive and lose my gold. Practice, Practice, Practice, RIGHT??

After i did a little research about looking for gold i learned why they call california the golden state' its cuz the amount of gold found in the ground here' i lived here most of my life and thought it was the goldenstate cuz of the golden gate bridge lol.

Great advice I wish I started doing this many years ago just for fun. I may not have but it’s never to late to start and like you said I will teach my son to do this he is just eight years old. Imagine if you just do this in your spare time and save everything you get for twenty years or so.... It would most likely take a lot of hours but ... You could very likely get enough to pay off a house 🏡 or buy a new car both life changing events just out of a hobby as your enjoying good old Mother Nature.
