I love the beautiful stain job, with the grain reversal revealing the unique and beautiful grain of the fir. Looks so much more beautiful and unique than the resin movie versions.

While it hasn't been confirmed, I believe Fred Weasley's wand was made of spruce. It fits with the style as well as how Garrick Ollivander describes the properties of spruce as a wand wood.

It’s filler primer otherwise the black looks naff if it goes straight onto wood

Get it together bro. I know you can do it. You've done it before. A piece of wood can be bent with water, and time. Or many other things.... like cutting the handle into the bent shape, then turning the shaft... when both peaces are done, glue them together and sand them into smooth. Don't let a wand make you give up! Just do it bro! Make bellatrix lestranges wand... . . Just do it.

Seeing the official wand that you are replicating I'm so glad I never burned the money on an official replica. They gave McGonagall an ugly ass wand. There is no reason to use black when Walnut and black walnut exist. Or for those who actually know what they're doing fairly well ebonywood is a thing. Considering that mcgonagall's wand is definitely not the one she had as a student I see absolutely no reason why she would pick something so bloody ugly. "The wand chooses the witch" nonsense aside it just doesn't seem like her. Maybe there's some British schoolmarm reference about the wand that I as an American fan am just missing....
