When this game was played, I was in the press room, together with GM David Bronstein. After Black played ... Qd6, Bronstein IMMEDIATELY said: 'If Kasparov doesn't take the pawn on d4 with his Rook, he shouldn't be playing chess at all!' I asked David if this should not be calculated, he anwsered that such an opportunity should be taken correct or not! After a long think Kasparov indeed played the move. David Bronstein smiled and said: 'Why waste so much time on this so obvious move!'

Obvious only to a super genius. It's hard to imagine that Kasparov saw the win 10 moves deep but then again he is the GOAT ❤

It's hard to comprehend how Garry or any other GM can come up with these moves. Also how they can play out so many moves and possibilities in their head is mind boggling. Great analysis Mr. King!

Great video from Danny. You neglected, however, to mention the most amazing fact of all: Kasparov claimed (and I have no reason to doubt him) that when he played 24. Rxd4!? he had seen all the way to 36. Bf1!! Absolutely incredible calculation!

A brilliant game by Kasparov and superb analysis by Mr King. It would even better if we can know how black can defend this attach at each stage.

I simply don't have the time to go into all the possible defences. I selected variations in order to highlight the logic of the game continuation or simply because they were beautiful.

Master of the unexpected. As Daniel put it, his attack just hangs together, giving the opponent the sense that he was about to consolidate his defense, yet Kasparov always had one move to keep the initiative. Truly great.

He changed his move against Judit Polgár in 1994 after momentarily letting go of a piece. Kasparov went on to win the game. The tournament officials had video records proving that his hand left the piece, but refused to release the evidence. A factor counting against Polgár was that she waited a whole day before complaining, and such claims must be made during the game. The videotape revealed that Kasparov did let go of the piece for one quarter of a second.

Please, don't spend too much time analysing Karpov's games. Although he was of course an eminent player, his style was also quite boring. Besides that, and for you to know: I'm like the rest of your fans, impatiently waiting for another e-mail alert to some new, always pertinent, expert comments on recent or historical games. Thanks for doing all this! We're all most grateful.

Karpov has had several brilliant games. While the man enjoyed his positional squeezes, he also played very, very sharp chess at times, even in the WCC against Kasparov. I think you have vastly misunderstood him. He is no Petrosian.

+ChromaticTempest I think you have misunderstood petrosian he has several purely positional squeezes true but he is the legend of the exchange sacrifice and has played his fair share of brilliancies in the Olympiads. He is no Smyslov.

@@Isaiah_McIntosh I think you have misunderstood smyslov even though he died as the second least credited world champion and played boring he used to sac all his pieces and conjure mates out of nowhere, especially in his youth.. He's no capablanca

@@AnandSivaram22 No less than Bobby Fischer said that Capablanca's tactical vision was the secret behind all of his great masterpieces. I paraphrase, but he said that his play was so super-sharp as to appear to create chances from nothing. He is no Kramnik.
