My friends at D'Addario are right that it's a precision, but it's a Greco precision. Crafted in Japan in 1973 by the masters at Fujigen. This bass also has a Stellartone Tonestyler and Duncan hot vintage pickup. Hope that helps!

I've found the ProSteels keep their bright tone longer than Rotos.

I like these demos I think Garth does a good job, I also like the look of these strings.

Excellent demo, I was looking at these strings for my Precision and this video sealed the deal.

also cant believe how good the tone is coming thru that little Amp. I have met a few ppl who sid those Micro's were 'hopeless'??, that sounds v rich tone...' impressive!!'

The Greco P Bass I'm using in this video also has a Tonestyler by Stellartone and a Duncan Vintage Hot P Bass pickup in it. In combination with my ProSteels, and the parts/positioning/attack of my fingers with my right hand technique everything is contributing to my treble output. Experiment and good luck!

How do these match with a more modern bass like the G&L l-2000? (Hybrid active) I feel these steel would match best with a more vintage bass? And maybe I'm better off trying chrome flat wound? Love your playing by the way! That right hand is mesmerisingly good!

I don't like the Hot (SPB-2) P-Bass pickup. It has too much low mid and not enough actual bass.
@michaelmarshall17137 жыл бұрын
Love his sound and the D,Addario strings are the best made I use them on all my basses and I have used many others but nothing touches these.

just ordered a set of heavy gauge ones for my Gibson T Bird. I tried a set of Chromes, but not cutting through the mix when I practice with my band. Going to put the chromes on my Steve Harris pbass. Think the Gibby is just too deep end for the chromes and will sound better on the pbass

I put these on both my Squier VM JB and my Squier VM PB V.. great tone ..I love them.

this bass sounded so good..wow.. i never heard such good tone from a precision bass... this bass gives me a reason to get a good precision...

Geezer is the man...and an innovator who doesn't get the true credit he deserves. These steels give you that punchy twang!

I actually use these on my pbass for playing jazz. I play downstrokes with my thumb and somehow I get a great jazzy tone with some slight brightness.

Garth can you tell me your honest opinion on the Ampeg Micro VR stack you're using in this video. I am in the market for a new amp and caught between the Ampeg BA115HP (220 watts) combo and the Micro VR Stack (200 watts). I am looking spend upto $700 on a new amp, one that offers a headphone jack option. Thanks for your feed back.
@roundwound196612 жыл бұрын
Hi nbm1953...I honestly use my Ampeg VR stack for many sessions and videos (you'll see them in my other videos as well.) For my acoustic band I use 2 VR stacks side by side for more volume and punch. The BA115 is a fine amp with a slightly different tone due to the 15" speaker. You should compare them side by side to make your your final decision.
@themadbassplayer1312 жыл бұрын
how much does one of those tone stylers cost? and do they provide a good slap tone, not necessarily on a p bass but on passive instruments in general?
@themadbassplayer1312 жыл бұрын
I have a p bass and i play with very bright strings on them but they still arent as bright as his bass is. I dont know whether its my amp or i have to play harder but i want the bass to be a little brighter.

If you dig steels, and steels that don't sound dead after an hour of playing, check out the pro steels.

Looks like it says "Greco" on the headstock, but it's hard to tell. Also, that doesn't look like a Fender headstock to me.
@justinkline12945 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's a Greco. Awesome vintage Japanese basses. Hand made replicas of the Fenders, Gibsons and Rickenbacker. I have a Greco p-bass, j-bass and Rick replica. Used to have "real" versions of each, but like thew Grecos so much better.

thanks! I'm about to buy it, and damn, these videos sold it to me. I'm not a great D'Addario fan (only Chromes for me), but the hell, this is the best video for this amp... not even the official one is nearly that good

@@randominsanity9913 I know right. 5 years later and still this fuckin' guy. Garth Fielding is a professional bass (incl. session) player, and is an official D'addario artist. Dude has skills to pay the bills.
