I couldn’t agree more with Gary! The media done the same with Emma Raducanu in tennis. As soon as they see someone have a bit of success they hound them, put so much pressure on them and then when it all comes crashing down are then quick to jump on their downfall taking no accountability!

I’ve hardly seen a interview to any dart player after they have won not mentioning lukes name,regardless if there even in the said players side of the draw.It’s too much sky sports news have had him on Skype several times now,not seen any other dart player on since it started. Luckily enough he’s that laid back I really don’t think it will affect him. But he still won’t win it imo.

He’s completely right about Luke Littler , he’s a boy , leave him the heck alone and let him learn his craft and improve and see where he ends up. It’s no different to any other trade or job , you do your apprenticeship and then kick on from there. The boy has fantastic potential and let’s remember he’s still a young man learning and growing, he’s just doing it in the public eye which makes it so much more difficult

SKY are particularly bad on the darts in recent years they overexpose one person to the point where people start to turn on the player through no fault of their own. I almost couldn't watch his last match, the two commentators barely commentated on what was happening in the first set it was all about the 16 year old phenomenon, etc. Look he's a great player and I want him to do well but I don't need to be told he's 16 every 30 seconds. Think they are misinterpreting what Gary is saying. He's isn't saying don't cover his success, he's saying you shouldn't be putting the spotlight on him (there is a subtle difference). People already saying will he get in the Premier League?? He's 16!!! Darts would still be nothing without the media. They’re the best promoter for the game. Pressure is a given in any sport at the top level, including darts.

Well said Gary. Saw exactly the same thing with the way the Australian press reported on whole women's Australian football team the Matildas in the women's world cup. It guided their reporting and it guided their interviews - acting as if they'd already won. When they got to the semis, the press were saying 'oh they're definitely in the final for a win now, they'll beat England in the semis and then they'll be winning the world cup soon'. Of course they lost to ENgland, and so went into the playoff for 3rd and 4th. Then the press start saying 'Oh well they couldn't beat England because of x, y and z, but at least the Matildas will come away with bronze beating Sweden, something they can still be proud of'. They reported as if they'd already beaten Sweden, and the press were already celebrating this future win. Then they lost to Sweden, and didn't get any medal. There should actually be a rule against the press doing this sort of thing. It has a real effect. It's so destructive and parasitic.
