Gary’s mic was messed up for the first 2 minutes. Micheal fixed it right away, so you might notice Gary’s sound change in the first 2 minutes of the audio. Sorry about that!

The pension is one of the greatest things that the United Association offers. My Financial Advisor said there is hardly anyway a 401k offered what my pensions does. A worker would have to have about 1.2 million in a 401k saved to equal what my pension pays. Not sure how many trade workers retire with over a million dollars in a 401k. Keep up the great work brother Gary.

I came up with a bad idea about unions but what I can say is the the training and education that 208 provides is top notch. A trade school does not turn out experts like the apprenticeship does. In addition, I have had experiences and exposure to things I otherwise wouldn’t have. I’ve worked on liquid cooled supercomputers for the government. I’ve worked on environmental chambers that test equipment before it goes into space for a major aerospace company, I’ve worked on MRI machines, microscopes and telescopes… Opportunity is available, the rest is what you choose to do with it!

Awesome interview; tons of info for any young kids looking for a high paying exciting job. Gary was very impressive with his display of deep and helpful information from his years of experience in the field.

Great intro. My son just applied to 208. He is excited as he should be. Completed test and waiting for interview. The financial sacrifice for first couple of years was definately a discussion. I introduced him to a couple of 208 members who I worked with on my jobsite (Im a BAS electrician). They were very encouraging to him. Now a position just needs to open up.

Another interesting episode. The training program really exposes how overpriced the current university programs are.

Is there an age limit?
@theourworldpodcastАй бұрын
@@ljmanz55 There is not, I would say that it depends on the individual to make the program successful, no matter what age they are.

Can you work more than 40 hours is it. It typical?
@theourworldpodcastАй бұрын
@@ljmanz55 There are mostly 40 hrs a week projects, and many overtime projects. You can move to different contractors and work on different projects.
