We, or all of the lovers of 70's music have nothing to be ashamed of...unlike the BBC who knew and allowed him his dark pleasures, we were drawn to the music, what GG and the GB gave to music is ours, the seedy rest is for the establishment to bare.

In this case (Glitter romancing a 14 yr old Thai girl in Bangkok?) and many other cases, such as Jimmy Page or David Bowie bedding Lori Lightning, the only shame is SHAME ITSELF, to vary a phrase of FDR's but apt enough as this shame is based nearly entirely on fear, or hysteria about sexuality itself. Shame on Mother Nature for not starting puberty at 18, or why not 25, or,, as is the current trends, NEVER. My, What healthy people, and peoples. But how much of the world will be hocused by this new vogue in morality-pose Sweepstakes? Not Rio, not Paris, not even Shanghai. Not everyone can live down to Irvine, CA. Older Men, and Older Women, in ancient societies such as Alexandria and Rome thought such behavior healthy, normal, and envigorating for all parties and courted their lovers: and managed to write some of the best literature ever made. Whereas in the modern USA, "arranged marriages"----meaning often an entire life of enslavement to a repulsive spouse---remain legal for females under 18. Perhaps rock stars and movie stars aren't the problem, but the Good Citizenry loves drooling at celebrity downfall while vamping in the morality play of Pin The Tail On The Tail. "Do Ya Wanna Touch?" Only if you are over 30 with a steady job and 4.7 million dollars in worth----and then go the shrills about the "obscene? " So go the quotes too: "Money can't buy love," but prestige can't either, and brute force certainly can't, except for born masochists; so open the floodgates and see what floats to the top, and forget about whether "Witches" will...

I correct you: Weeks on the UK chart during the glam boom (first half of the 70s) Singles + Albums Gary Glitter: 179 weeks on the UK chart during that period T. Rex: 308 weeks on the UK chart during that period Slade: 260 weeks on the UK chart during that period David Bowie: 424 weeks on the UK chart during that period (the album Ziggy Stardust was the first studio album by a solo artist to reach 100 weeks!) Sweet: 127 weeks on the UK chart during that period Roxy Music: 110 weeks on the UK chart during that period Suzi Quatro: 67 weeks on the UK chart during that period Alice Cooper: 131 weeks on the UK chart during that period among others, but wow, Gary was far from the top 3, I guess he needed to make albums that really impacted, he was good for singles, but his albums were very bad
@michaelmarshall171310 ай бұрын
@@marcosruiz1709 The impact he had on that scene puts him in Top Three . Nolan (T Rex) invented Glam Gary perfected it better than anyone . He had more top 30 singles than most and yes the albums were not brilliant but still good . I think The Sweet were far superior than any band today and even then.
@marcosruiz170910 ай бұрын
@@michaelmarshall1713 It really cannot be determined who invented it, because the story goes back a long way and many artists on the scene were known in the 60s, then Gary did not perfect anything, I think it is evident that the one who stood out above all at the level artistic was bowie, bowie was always an album artist, his aladdin sane was competing with two beatles compilations and even so he was number 1 for 9 weeks in melody maker and number 1 for 5 weeks in BMRB, apart from mentioning, that unlike Any British glam act, Bowie did have an impact in America, in '73 he was the foreign soloist with the most albums sold on Billboard, and in 1974 he even had number 1 albums in Canada, and in the United Kingdom, as I told you before, Ziggy Stardust was the first studio album by a solo artist to reach 100 weeks on the UK chart, which is a historical milestone, anyone with half a brain knows who you are made good music and would transcend and who would remain in the memories but nothing more, why do you think that Roxy Music has transcended more than Slade? Look, I love Slade, but Roxy Music was clearly superior, that's why today they have more views on the platforms that young people use, the case of T Rex was perfect, Bolan had the perfect combination of incredible singles and brilliant albums, In Gary's case, I would really say that not even the synlges were a big deal, that's why so little has transpired, because he was an artist who was in fashion for a couple of years and nothing more, no album to remember, it's very complicated. transcend in music without having made outstanding albums, you will always be remembered for a couple of singles, and Gary is remembered today for "rock n roll" and that's it, if we talk about influence, it is clear that Bolan and Bowie influenced much more than gary, remember that bowie changed madonna's life as she herself says, or that the sex pistols were highly influenced by t rex and bowie, as for what you say about sweet, it's just like that, sweet was an incredible band, they did of everything, and perhaps they remained a singles band, but their albums are very interesting, they transcended quite well, today they are remembered for quite a few songs, in Gary's case no, Gary didn't really transcend, his music was not good Let's say, its popularity lasted a few years and it never knew how to reinvent itself, even Mott the Hoople has transcended more, even Sparks, in fact, even the New York Dolls! Gary Glitter was not a pioneer, Gary Glitter did not create sensational albums, Gary Glitter did not reinvent himself, Gary Glitter did not transcend, for that and much more, he could never be considered in such a high position, apart from the horrible person he was. by the way, if we talk about top 30 singles (all of these on NME, BMRB and Melody Maker) Gary was not the one who had the most during the glam boom (first half of the 70s) [1970-74] T. Rex had 14 Slade had 13 Gary Glitter had 9 David Bowie had 11 Sweet had 11 (although 4 of them were not glam rock, more of bubblegum pop)´ Suzi Quatro had 6, Roxy Music had 4, Alvin Stardust had 5, Alice Cooper had 5, Mott the Hoople had 5. Ok, this is all perfect, but let's not forget the albums! Top 30 albums in the rise of glam rock: (1970-74) UK Main Charts (BMRB, MM and NME) T. Rex: 8 (weeks in top 10: 56) Slade: 5 (weeks in top 10: 63) Bowie: 8 (weeks in top 10: 84) Gary Glitter: 3 (weeks in top 10: 13) Roxy Music: 4 (weeks in top 10: 18) Sweet and Suzi Quatro didn't have any weeks in the top 10 for albums, they were clearly singles artists. As you can see, taking an average, things are not as you think. But most important of all, let's take a total of the 70s: Singles + Albums T. Rex Singles top 10: 11 Albums top 10: 6 Total: 17 (Total weeks in top 10: 126) ----------------------- Slade Singles top 10: 13 Albums top 10: 5 Total: 18 (Total weeks in top 10: 132) ----------------------- David Bowie Singles top 10: 12 Top 10 albums: 13 Total: 25 (Total weeks in top 10: 162) ----------------------- Gary Glitter Singles top 10: 11 Albums top 10: 3 Total: 20 (Total weeks in top 10: 74) ----------------------- Queen Singles top 10: 8 Albums top 10: 7 Total: 15 (Total weeks in top 10: 95) ----------------------- As you can see, it is below, then, if we continue to the 80s, unfortunately we do not know what Bolan would have done, since he died in 1977, Slade managed to re-emerge in 1984 with an album and two very good singles! Gary Glitter had a top 10 single in the 80s but there was nothing else about that, it was precisely a Christmas song, and Queen and Bowie reaffirmed themselves as living legends worldwide, that is another big difference, for example, Queen had 2 singles number 1 in the 80s (1 in BMRB and another in NME) while Bowie had 6 number 1s (4 in BMRB + another two in NME and Melody Maker) Apart from the fact that they continued making incredible albums, Queen made 4 more number 1 albums and Bowie another 3, despite only releasing 4 in the 80s. For this reason, certain bands have transcended more or have done so less, you have to know how to stay current. When you make good music, you will transcend, if all you do is join a musical genre and exploit your music to the maximum with mediocre songs that will not pass the test of time, you will not transcend, music is like that, no everything goes forever!

@WaywordDaughter10 ай бұрын
@@MrHarleyoldfart Yes, it is my interpretation just as it is many others.. Artist lyrics are derived from their experiences of the world what they think, live and love etc... So one can only conclude his songs about being with someone we assumed as a grown ass man was about a grown woman or if he were attracted to the same sex a man..But NOPE he is attracted to 'little' girls so the lyrics speak volumes and Yes I do think about the kids as I'm a Survivor of such sick twisted behaviour as is young ones I've been to court with numerous times to protect from people like him.. I'm also an Online Hunter.. Once you step into that world and your read the shit they think they are sending to innocent children, his lyrics take on their true intented audience.. one of the first 45s I bought, glam rock was a great part of my childhood, was devastated when his horrible activitys came to light , why when he had everything ? , he could have been up there with the stars, a legend ! a true showman , love the music but i could quite happily punch the bastard in the face. he spoilt more than he'll ever know, i don't wish him well .
