It's not that fullbacks cant defend anymore or that they re all ex-wingers and all that.. a lot of the development in both the style and the rules of the game has favoured the attacking wide players over the years and the demand for fullbacks to provide the width going forward - mostly on their own - because of inverted wingers is just too much pressure and responsibility to put on a player.. its a catch-22 where you both need experience but at the same time you need ridiculous pace and stamina to be able to be a fullback and then if you have all that but dont have pinpoint delivery or ability to beat people 1v1 then.. you re not the complete package. that's why so few players reach the top level as fullbacks these days and thats why when they do we appreciate them so much but even when they do they dont tend to stay there for long because its by far the hardest position in modern football.

Carragher you couldn't be more wrong! First we love both Salah and Mane and LFC is all about team work, and that is actually what made the team perform brilliantly this season both in PL and UEFA. Salah, while having a slow season and suffering from a prolonged goal drought, has managed AGAIN to be PL top scorer! Salah has scored many decisive and last minute goals that were CRITICAL in pushing LFC in both PL and UEFA (Man United, Man City, Southampton, Napoli, etc.. ). The quality of his goals is also top notch! That is only mentioning the technical part and not even mentioning the great humble and kind personality everybody everywhere has known him for! Mane is a very good player too and this season he is looking better. Explosively penetrating team defenses and scoring many headers. But he lacks that 'Magical Touch' that only Salah has in front of the goal. Also many of Mane's goals, including the important 'first' goals as you mentioned were a result of a good assist from no one but Salah. LFC needs both players and it will always be team work that pushes them into the lead, but you couldn't be more wrong and your analysis is BOGUS. There’s simply things that stats don’t show that Mane does better than Salah. Mane is imo more dangerous than Salah. Liverpool playing down the left side looks just much more dangerous. Salah gives up the ball incredibly easy. He hasn’t really shown up in big games, until recently. I do think Salah is picking it back up. Mane really kept us in the race though. Also Mane’s work rate is pretty incredible. If you just go by stats... we all make fun of Lukaku and say how he can’t finish he lunch. This year he’s not even noticed... but he still has the same amount of goals as Firmino. Last year he had more goals and the same amount of assists. Based on what? cuz numbers suggest other wise. It took Salah 1 1/2 season to score 51 premier league goals but it took Mane 2 1/2 seasons to score the same amount of goals. You should look at where attackers want to play. They don't want to play in the middle, they want to play in the space out wide. To add to the changing role of wide forwards, full back is now, the most important and the most difficult (both physically and tactically) role on the pitch. I very much doubt that either of these guys could have made it as full backs in today's game, both would almost certainly ended up as CBs (Carragher played most of his time as a fill in for others as is.)

Well i’m Spurs fan but both players are unstoppable!! Mane’s strength is his ability to keep the ball under pressure ( physically better ) but Mo’s finish is world class and he’s very skilful.
