I saw it for the first time on 11/17/23 and was mesmerized by it. I'm a film buff and Nil By Mouth is one of the very best movies I have ever seen. :)

This is probably the best work of one Gary Oldman. And he's not even in it! It might have been nice if he had just given himself a little cameo. But he wanted complete unknowns for his movie so we could think we were just eavesdropping on real strangers. After seeing this, I wish he would write and direct more films. He really shined a light on the dark seedy underbelly of Britain. A lot of people really thought so. The man won two BAFTA's for it. This is indeed, an unforgettable piece of cinema. One of the best of 1997. Won a lot of awards. I just wish it would have garnered that box-office gold as well.

One of the finest movies I've ever made. Many of my favourite films are ... well ... I like them but I can't make an argument for them as great works of art but Nil By Mouth I will stand by as one of the best movies of all time.

If he finds a calling and attachment to a story or script. Nil by Mouth is incredibly specific and individual, such chaotic and complex characters depicted on screen that you wonder how much personal drain it took on Gary to make the film. Dredging up one’s past to make sense of it all.

@@rorrtit’s not that he shouldn’t, he clearly has a capability. He may do, he may not. If he does, I’ll certainly see his new film, but I’ll be awfully trepidations as Nil by Mouth was utterly volcanic. I think you need lead lined gloves to handle that film, my lord

@@bolshevi3187 It's been the best part of 30 years................If he does directs a new film, I will eat my hat.. I personally don't think he has anything to prove directing ever again.. Nil By Mouth was a 10/10..He's an actor. He cant do better.

Films like Nil By Mouth didn't make real money. They got lauded by critics and seen by small numbers of film buffs but they were never going to sell loads of cinema tickets.
