Just by chance I was able to check before I installed it after watching your video. I had it wrong. You saved me a headache down the road thanks

Hi Gary can you go through and explain the circuits/valves in an AX4n valve body (mine is from a 1997 Taurus SHO)
@GaryFerraro6 жыл бұрын
I do not have any valve bodies here, are you having an issue with your trans?
@tracycolorado9 жыл бұрын
thanks Gary , good diagnosis . Happy Independence Day . doesn't that tick the other shop off , to find out that it was just a misplaced spring

tracycolorado Happy 4th too you as well. Thanks for the kind words and thank you for watching. They were very happy that i solved the problem for them, the owner is an ok guy, im glad i was able to help.

I'm having the same issue in my 07 escalade. Transmission got overhauled and valve body got upgraded solenoids and springs all the good stuff from sonnax. But now.. when I drive on highway it stays 180ish but on the street at low speeds it gets as high as 230 but idle it starts to cool off... They have checked It over 4xs and no friction oil is clean and red no burn smell .. can the upgraded parts cause it to run hotter? Also a beefier t converter was installed
@GaryFerraro Жыл бұрын
How is the engine temp?
@jesusfavela3434 Жыл бұрын
@@GaryFerraro engine temp gets as high as 205 but will stay between 187 to 200 majority of the time. Trans shop checked for flow abstructions, any possible friction, no debris or metal of wear. He said 6l80s tend to run hotter than normal and that's one of the issues gm has.. but he said to rule out the valve body he sent out for another one and will install a exterior bypass cooler for better cooling. Have you ever seen this or delt with this issue on 6l80s
@GaryFerraro Жыл бұрын
@@jesusfavela3434 Only on the later models when the cooler bypass was not working, is the front of the car full of debris, like the front of the radiator, that will restrict air flow
@jesusfavela3434 Жыл бұрын
@@GaryFerraro k I'll stop at a car wash and use the pressure hose to clean it up.. hopefully that's the trick.... If it don't work and the auxiliary bypass cooler gets installed how much of a temp difference do they make? Like for me it's as high as 230 how low will he keep it?

with it overheating, you would need to re-oring/gasket kit in it right? I mean all that would get trashed no?
@GaryFerraro8 жыл бұрын
i would take it apart to see how everything looks, if anything is questionable i would change it, if all looks ok, it fine to reuse

thanks, nice work, 1 question, i have a 1999 ford windstar, when engine is on, the transmission fluid comes out from both cooler lines, why is this happening, this must not be like that?
@GaryFerraro9 жыл бұрын
+eternal0192 Where do you have the lines disconnected from? Any trans codes? Gary
@eternal01929 жыл бұрын
+Gary Ferraro none trans codes, it works well i think, but sometimes is has some kicks from 1st to 2nd gear, i have disconnected the lower line on the trans, that goes to the radiator, but the fluid comes out from the both sides
@GaryFerraro9 жыл бұрын
+eternal0192 The lower line is the return line, fluid should not come out the trans fitting, if the ca was cold when you did this, its possible that it was in the bypass mode, sometimes these transmissions when cold are in the bypass mode to heat up the fluid faster. Sorry for the late relpy, it is so busy at the shop. Gary
@eternal01929 жыл бұрын
+Gary Ferraro its okey, thank you a lot, i found the problem, it was the 1st relief valve stocked in one position, but now i have another problem, i've changed the fluid and filter also, and now trans in the R, D, 2,1 gears is kicks, that wasnt before, in the drive mode i dont see any changes, accept when on kickdown it also kicks a lot

hi gary i am watching your videos and rebuilding my 99 windstar AXOD at home i used to work as a car mechanic but i dont know anything about transmissions. the transmission had a shudder when on hill or when the car got heavy also it slams into 1st and 2nd especially when turning left but the shuddering got light after i added lucas trans fix but i could feel my engine was taking alot of power (higher rpm)to move the car please can you guide me acording to the symptoms where lo look specifically in detail as i have opened it up to the main valve body to now, im moving slowly to remember which part goes back where, wow i never knew a transmission had so many moving parts. well i will really appreciate any guidance thanks

I also did notice a broken patch of gasket for the valve body

Ok first, are there any codes for the transmission present? Gary

Question, what do you mean by when the car got heavy it slammed into 1st and 2nd, the car is loaded with equipment? Have you gane any futher than the valvebody in taking the unit apart. Gary

yes heavy means full with all 6 of my family members and yes i did not open up the rests which i will open up today or tomorrow but i did notice a crack and a missing piece in the valve body gasket

Gary, could you confirm the amount of drive chain play we are measuring on a 2000 AX4S, our ATRA manual says maximum of 5/8" measuring midway between the drive gears, we are seeing 1 1/4" is this possible or maybe we are looking at a different trans?
@GaryFerraro7 жыл бұрын
Does atra give you a procedure to measure the chain? 1 1/4 thats loose, I change the chain if more than 7/8"
@timothybroderick2537 жыл бұрын
tnx Gary for quick reply, they describe and picture it, based on that I measured midway between the gears, pulling the chain tight to the inside then tight to the outside noting the difference (to the same (outer) edge of the chain each time) mine covers 1 1/4" as I move the chain through that range. so as a general rule these drive chains should not have more than 1 inch of play ever?
@timothybroderick2537 жыл бұрын
**with that much play could the chain be causing a 'clunk into drive'?
@GaryFerraro7 жыл бұрын
Possible, also with that much play the chain would skip on takeoff. The clunk your feeling in drive, is there a delay too?
@timothybroderick2537 жыл бұрын
really not much delay but that is from memory, this one has been sitting awhile, I tore into this because of a loud! crack/snapped metal sound putting into drive followed by no forward gears, had to reverse it around the block to pull into the carport for diagnosis, any ideas what to look for? the fluid/torque converter/valve body/magnet/filter/final gears(looking through the casing) all look great so far...
