We don't have ratrods here in the U.K. but saw a fantastic chopped and channeled 3 window coupe at a tin and tats meet in Long Beach while on holiday in June. To me it was exactly what real hotrodding is about better than any of the megabuck motors at the show and more than anything else....Pure Fun! Great video.........thanks for posting..........you Americans are so lucky!

This is a cool video, for anyone (like me) who's in the process of building a rat rod. I've been collecting parts for 5 years , have enough parts to build 2 ratrods ,a '29 and a '31 roadster. Using mostly vintage parts , like '40 juice brakes on a Model A axle, '77 Ford F-100 rearend with original Model A rear buggy spring, powered by a '74 302/C6 original mated combo from a Ford van. The best thing about Ratrods, nobody has one just like yours. Always a one of a kind built within your budget.

There are some really cool rat rods in this video. It's pretty cool to see some of the creations that people have made from basically a pile of junk in the woods.I love these things...very cool!

You've got some great ones on here. Fell in love with these cars sometime back and would love to have a garage somewhere to create my own. My girls uncle has a sweet collection of Model A's at his farm. Just where to start I suppose.

@junction666 Hey thanks for the comment on my video slide show. I know we are lucky to live here. I am from the old school. I too love the simple "model A Ford coupe, chopped and channeled with a monster engine. That is what hot rodding is all about.

@SlayerMasterFilms Thanks for the cimment on my video slide show..... Good luck on your 27-T project. Also I hope you get you 34-3 window coupe. I had a 34 Ford 5 window coupe that I made a C/Gasser out of years ago. That was a fun car. Maybe you can chop your 34 when you get one. That would be wicked.!!!

@Adawgrussian Here in the USA we have what we call "Gear Heads". These are people who love to work on cars and build them from whatever they have available. They use any old parts that might be free or at very little cost. Building a car like a "Rat Rod" is challenging and very rewarding. The fabricating and engineering involved is considerable.... Crude and Rusty is good!!! Hope this gives you some Idea of why a person would build a "One of a kind" Rat Rod.

@chieffy35 The music is from the list provided by "You Tube". I think the name of the band was "The garage band" or something like that. When I first started doing some video slide shows they would not let me use music other that what they had on file. Now it seem it is ok to use most anything available.....?

Seems to me that the term "Rat Rod" comes from the fact that most of the cars are made out of ratty old, rusty parts found out behind old barns and garages and in places where rats would live. That being said, I think a "Rat Rod" reflects the builder's desire to make a car that is a one-of-a-kind. No need to invest a lot of money on $2,000 paint jobs or fancy upholstery, just make it safe and drivable. They are just cool...

Mind you, most rat rods aren't complete cars at the beginning. They're made from parts of many different cars, often put haphazardly together. It's understandable why you'd want to restore a complete Model A, but when you only have the chassis of a model A, some tires from a drag racer, and a really big engine, well....

To me, Ratrods are built for one reason, to beat the hell out of , to be able to beat it and not worry about what might break, cause if you built it right, it not gonna break like the recyclable generic crap the flood the market with nowadays. I also have a '62 Galaxie 500 XL, '67 Galaxie 500, ans '64-'66-'74-'77 Ford trucks to build just to beat around in. I don't care for candy coated paint jobs, or scallops , just give me that old Rustoleum flat black, and some old style flame job.

@weman3rd I hear ya... obviously rat rods are a low budget deal compared to the all out show cars. For most rat rod builders it is the fun of building a "one of a kind" car. Finding parts that work, engineering how they look and fit together. I say as long as they are built safe .... anything goes.

my only gripe is towards the death(shock) rods, mtrs blocking the view, roofs so low you can just barely get in or out of, no floors and poor / shoddy craftsmanship. When these start getting into accidents, the govt will use it as an excuse to start regulating what we can drive and cant drive. We need to be responsible builders to keep others from telling us what we can build. hell in Italy my uncle got ticketed for having different size tires than what came on the car origionally

@ckctvids @ckctvids Most builders probably have a a lot of the parts just laying around their shop. They put them together based on a plan they have in their head. If you can fabricate, weld, do electrical yourself you will save a lot. I would guess most rat rods cost from $4,000 to $7,000 to build. You see them for sale around $8,000 to $12.000. As for how long it would take... Who knows, some gear heads could build one in a mater of weeks and some take a year or two to complete.

@kraetz Exactly what I was trying to say.....lucky if you see any hotrods at all here in the U.K. unless it's on a Saturday or Sunday the weather is good and "You know the right places to go to!!!!" What the f*ck does that mean? The guys we met in Long Beach last year drove their cars all week to and from work and just drove that little bit faster at weekends!.....the late Saturday night street race was brilliant..........sirens were going for hours!
