The problem with a lot of these tv-advertised kitchen appliances is that it's possible that the same Chinese factories might produce two versions of the product...a "good" one to be sold by the trademark holder and a less-able unit to be sold in cheapy stores. The plastic mouldings and parts are a bit of a give-away. At a very reputable department store here in Australia I was shopping for a new Microwave oven. I settled on a 900w convection unit with a known brand over here. Then I spied, on the other side of the aisle, a similar specification oven which only had minor cosmetic differences but looked almost identical to the pricier "brand" unit. So, on looking at the casing, the glass platter and the touch controls it was evident the two units had come from the same supplier only the department store generic brand unit was almost $40 cheaper. Upon enquiring with the department store head office I was told I was correct...both units came from the same supplier. So it's not always true that you are being tricked when buying something similar.
@matthewyabsley5 жыл бұрын
That’s actually true. Usually it starts the other way round though, many big names don’t actually make the equipment that you are buying at all, take Phillips for example. It’s just a brand. The supplier often pitches their product to the brand, either as a supplier or to use their brand name on a licensing arrangement. The brand will then look at the product and suggest changes, increase in quality etc to pass their own criteria. The cheaper store brand one often is the original product. The brand one being the revised edition.

18:04 Just because an item has Safety Certification marks doesn't mean it's a genuine item. The Safety Certification marks can be faked too, can't they? The only guaranteed way to buy a genuine item is to buy it directly from the manufacturer. For example, if you want a genuine Samsung, buy it from Samsung (or from its known trusted partners). If you want a genuine iPhone, buy it from Apple (or from its known trusted partners). Yes, it usually is more expensive to buy from the manufacturer, but it also comes with guarantees you won't find on the High Street.

I know this comment is a year old but I will still reply. Signed memorabilia is not always equipment directly used by the the signer. People often bring their own equipment to be signed to events where sports stars are. They will bring a new boxing glove or ball for instance, go to a signing, get it signed. Seeing how Ali died in 2016 there were plenty of opportunities for more modern equipment to be signed this way, not sure why this possible scenario was not obvious to you.
@benji2193 жыл бұрын

If anyone is a collector of autographs I recommend finding the name and address of their agent and sending a letter asking for an autograph. Alternatively, if you like a band, write a letter to where they are playing. You would be surprised how often you will get a reply. Certain Rolling Stones members are extremely kind, David Bowie was too. I wrote Bowie a letter when he was in 'Tin Machine' to a venue they were playing and he sent me a nice note and included 2 guitar picks with 'Reeves Gabrels' embossed on them. I really like meeting people and getting their autographs. It means a lot more than buying. It may be more difficult, but that's the point. Autographs are difficult to verify. A lot comes to common sense and basic research. Sean Connery, for example, doesn't sign James Bond photos. Most musicians won't sign guitars either. I personally would NEVER buy an autograph.

I sold it on with the clear proviso of how it'd been sold to me and that although it looked good, I couldn't verify its authenticity. I hope all of the poor buggers scammed on here have done the same; and maybe recouped a few quid. A lot of folk are happy to display/use something that 'might' be genuine. There are no winners here, other than the original scammers who get suspended sentences and tiny fines that don't equate to their scams. Fines they can negotiate to pay in pennies per week and can happily default on these too. 😕
