The only thing reasonable would be to allow it when damage is on. So you'd have to do it near the end to make sure you can still finish if the car is wrecked.

It’s called friction/elasticity. I make games myself and developers like BEAMNG make the wall elastic so you bounce off of it. If you do get it however, your cars wheels will just pop. For Dirt rally 2.0, they have it a lot of friction so it’ll slow you down

Iracing seems the most realistic compared to what chastain actually did, so I booted up phoenix on iracing to see if it's possible next week for the championship, I only tested on fresh tires, but riding the wall in 3 and 4 does work according to iracing, saves you about a half a second on a fresh tires lap time driving regularly, so I assume on old tires it would gain more time. If anyone needs it this week I would expect them to try it. However, I did also test riding the wall in 1 and 2, and 3 and 4 for one lap in case anyone is really desperate, if the car can make it to 3 and 4 which iracing says it can, not full speed but enough speed down the backstretch, you can gain 1.5 seconds on a fresh tires lap. Can't wait to see what happens this weekend, I'm sitting row 12 right in the middle of 3 and 4 so I can't wait!!!!!!

Apparently when Ross wall rode he pinned the throttle, let go of the wheel, and just held onto the shifter in case he needed 5th gear
